Sputnik demonstrated in video material the process of melting and transforming steel into sheet at the Uzmetkombinat enterprise in Bekobod. The new complex was commissioned in July 2026.
It is planned that after the complex reaches full capacity, it will produce 1 million tons of hot-rolled steel sheet annually, generating an income of 8 trillion soms and creating 1200 jobs. The product is intended to meet the needs of metallurgical plants in Tashkent and Samarkand.
The process begins with smelting in an electric arc furnace, after which the chemical composition of the material is brought to established norms in a special unit. The steel, purified from gases in a vacuum degasser, is turned into slabs—a semi-finished product—in a continuous casting machine. Then this material is heated and sent to the rolling mill.
This technology allows for the production of various types of low-carbon steel required for the mechanical engineering and automotive industries.
The local manager, Erkinjon Mamatkulov, reported that a tunnel furnace with a length of 120 meters is located nearby, consisting of five zones that allow individual temperature regulation in each of them.
A local specialist, a 30-year-old resident of Bekobod, studied at the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys. He began his career as a repair fitter and later advanced to the position of section manager in the new complex.
The combine has concluded agreements with ten higher education institutions for personnel training. As part of the agreement with Perm Polytechnic University of Russia, 500 grants for distance learning of employees are provided.
