The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and China have reached an agreement to implement a pilot project for exporting agricultural products to China's e-commerce platforms. This was reported by Kanat Olzhabayev, Deputy Director of the Department of Trade Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
According to Olzhabayev, China remains a key foreign trade partner for the EAEU. In 2025, China accounted for 36.2 percent of the Union's foreign trade turnover. Furthermore, in January-July 2026, mutual trade increased by 19.7 percent.
It was also noted that seven years ago, an agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU and China came into force, and during this period, the volume of trade more than doubled.
At the sixth meeting of the joint commission, held on October 29 in the city of Qingdao, China, the parties updated the 'roadmap' for cooperation, scheduled until 2028. This document covers several areas.
Growth of Agricultural Exports
Olzhabayev emphasized that in the first seven months of 2026, exports of agricultural products from the EAEU to China grew by 40 percent. The exported products include soybeans, vegetable oils, fish, chickpeas, and meat products. He stated: 'We agreed to implement a pilot project for exporting our producers' food products to China's electronic trading platforms.'
Digitalization of Railway Transport
The parties also discussed issues of developing transport links and simplifying customs procedures. As part of the pilot project on the digitalization of railway transport, initial shipments between Russia and China based on electronic bills of lading have begun. Specifically, coal, fertilizers, and consumer goods are being transported using paperless documentation forms.
In Olzhabayev's opinion, these measures contribute to expanding exporters' opportunities to enter the Chinese market.
