Bosch Limited announces stock split and bonus issue, increasing share count by 20 times

Bosch Limited, which manufactures auto parts and other hardware equipment, informed its shareholders of two significant pieces of news: a stock split and the issuance of bonus shares.

As a result of these measures, each existing company share will be converted into 20 shares. Bosch decided on the stock split approximately 22 years after the previous one.

Despite this major announcement, the company's shares closed lower on Friday. On November 6, Bosch shares on the BSE finished trading at ₹50,765, down 3.21%. Although the shares reached a new 52-week high of ₹52,650 during trading, subsequent selling pressure led to a price decline.

The Board of Directors approved the stock split at a ratio of 1:5. This means that each share with a nominal value of ₹10 will be split into five shares with a nominal value of ₹2. Furthermore, the company announced the issuance of bonus shares at a ratio of 3:1, giving shareholders three additional shares for every one they hold. For example, if an investor had 10 shares, they would become 50 after the split, and then 150 bonus shares would be credited to those 50 shares, resulting in a total of 200 shares.

Previously, Bosch conducted a stock split in 2004, where one share with a face value of ₹100 was divided into ten shares with a face value of ₹10. The company is now making another decision to split shares, converting a ₹10 nominal share into five shares with a ₹2 nominal value, about 22 years later.

Bosch also published quarterly financial reports for the period from July to September. During this period, the company's net profit increased to ₹839.4 billion, compared to ₹708 billion in the same quarter last year. This current profit includes a one-time income of approximately ₹130 billion; excluding this amount, the profit is approximately ₹709.4 billion. The company's revenue for the quarter grew by 28.2% year-over-year, reaching ₹7,655 billion from ₹5,969 billion last year. EBITDA also increased to ₹1,037 billion compared to ₹842 billion the previous year, although the EBITDA margin slightly decreased from 14% to 13.5%.

On Friday, Bosch shares showed initial growth, opening at ₹52,540 after closing at ₹52,450 on Thursday. During the day, the price reached a new 52-week high of ₹52,650. However, due to selling pressure, the price fell to a daily low of ₹50,321.20 and ultimately closed at ₹50,765, showing a drop of 3.21%. Before this Friday correction, the shares had shown good momentum, rising by about 15% over the last two weeks, 38.44% over six months, and 40.45% since the beginning of the current year. The 52-week low stands at ₹28,650.05.

Investors should note that the increase in the number of shares following the split and bonuses does not automatically lead to an increase in total investment value. With a stock split, the nominal value decreases, and after receiving bonuses, the total number of shares increases, which necessitates a corresponding adjustment in the share price. While the company has announced the split and bonuses, information regarding the record date and effective date is still awaited. Investors are advised to monitor these dates and official company announcements.
