Uzbek boxer Bektemir Melikuziyev defeated Tajik Karomatullo Sharipov in the main fight of the Fury by the Sea tournament, which took place in Dubai on November 6 as part of the MUKA Boxing event.
The fight ended before judges had to count the points, as Melikuziyev stopped his opponent after only two rounds. Prior to this bout, the Uzbek boxer had a professional record of 17 wins and one loss.
Melikuziyev competes in super middleweight and is a mandatory challenger for the World Boxing Association (WBA) world championship title. Previously, the WBA had instructed the reigning champion Jaime Muninga to defend his belt against the Uzbek boxer.
The date of Melikuziyev's next fight has not yet been announced. The Fury by the Sea event was held at the Nikki Beach venue and was organized by MUKA Sports Organizing LLC. The event program included 12 fights featuring professional boxers, bloggers, and representatives of other martial arts, as well as an entertainment program.
Melikuziyev is known among fans for both his amateur and professional careers. Before transitioning to professional sports, he won a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
