During the celebration of Diwali, people often buy expensive garlands, lighting fixtures, and various decorative items in stores to decorate their homes. However, it is known that paper cups discarded after drinking tea can be used to decorate your home. With these disposable cups, you can create colorful and impressive garlands without spending much money and without needing special materials.
A special advantage is that making this garland is very simple. You can design it in your chosen colors and patterns. It can be hung on the main entrance, balcony, window, or wall to add a festive mood. Children can also be involved in this creative process.
Next, a simple way to create a decorative garland from paper cups is presented.
Materials Needed
For this, you will need 15–20 clean paper cups, scissors, paints, brushes, strong thread or wool, and a needle. Beads and small bells can be used for additional decoration.
Shaping the Paper Cup into a Flower
First, thoroughly clean and dry the paper cups. Then, use scissors to make long slits along the bottom edge of the cup. Gently fold the strips outwards so that the cup takes on the appearance of a flower.
Decorating with Favorite Colors
Afterward, apply red, yellow, pink, or green paint to the prepared cups. Once the paint dries, you can add glitter or small decorative patterns to the edges, which will make the garland more attractive.
Creating the Garland with Thread
Carefully poke a small hole in the center of each cup. Then, string them sequentially onto a strong thread or wool. To give the garland a different design, beads can be placed between the cups.
Placing the Garland in Home Corners
The garland made from paper cups can be hung on the main door, balcony railing, or living room wall. By creating several garlands of different colors and placing them together, the decoration can become even more magnificent.
Important note: Before reusing the cups, ensure they are thoroughly cleaned and completely dry. The paper cup garland should be kept away from open flames and candles. If you plan to use fireworks, place them at a safe distance to avoid the risk of fire.
