At Arena Niterói, located in Rio de Janeiro, the Spanish team, which is the reigning European champion, first took the lead in the 21st minute thanks to a goal by José Rayi. Then, in the 39th minute, Sergio González scored the second goal, allowing Spain to take the lead over Portugal.

Portugal, defending the title won in 2022, led 2-1 after goals from Ruben Teixeira (27th minute) and Hugo Neves (33rd minute). However, in the penalty shootout, players Panni Varela and Lúcio Rocha were unable to convert their shots for Portugal, while Adrián Rivera was the only one who failed to score for Spain.
