Britannia Industries intends to closely observe the expansion of Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL) in the biscuit market as competition intensifies. Meanwhile, the company plans further price increases amid rising inflation and increased demand in the e-commerce sector.
Rakshit Hargave, Managing Director and CEO of the major Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) manufacturer, informed investors during the company's report that Britannia Industries is closely watching RCPL's entry into the biscuit market, especially after its launch in Tamil Nadu. He noted that a significant portion of the biscuit market operates in the ₹5 and ₹10 price segments, making it more difficult to undermine than the soft drink market.
Hargave emphasized that the biscuit market differs from the cola market, and the company's initial assessment is one of extreme vigilance. He added that they have already studied and analyzed the competitor's products, noting that unlike the cola market where a price shift occurred, most of the biscuit market is sustained by prices of ₹5 and ₹10.
The company will assess how fierce the competitive struggle becomes. It is worth noting that RCPL entered the soft drink market in 2023 with the launch of the Campa brand. According to Reliance Industries' second-quarter report, Campa exceeded ₹5,250 in net sales in the first half of the 2026-27 financial year (H1FY27), achieving over 90 percent of the 2026 fiscal year's sales in just six months, and capturing a double-digit market share in key territories.
Discussing inflation, Hargave stated that the company will implement additional price hikes. He explained that the current situation is characterized by a high level of inflation, which is likely to persist. The company implemented a 3.5 percent increase in the last quarter, but its price hike has a different specificity, as a significant part of this increase is related to so-called 'shrinkflation,' which requires about one and a half to two months for physical implementation.
Furthermore, he pointed to a possible future decline in sales volume due to plans to reduce package weight. Vipin Kataria, Commercial Director of Britannia Industries, told analysts that consumers in semi-urban and rural areas are beginning to switch to premium products, which is a positive factor for rural demand.
Hargave also mentioned that the company's revenue share from e-commerce (ecom) is currently 7 percent, and the company is extremely optimistic about this channel. He stated that he views e-commerce as an independent business unit for which products will be developed specifically for this line. In his opinion, a developed company and partnerships are a competitive advantage.
Despite the growth in e-commerce, biscuits remain the largest source of income, accounting for 78–80 percent of total revenue.
