Voltas' profit grew by 51.4% in the second quarter, and revenue increased by 15.3%

Voltas Ltd, a manufacturer of air conditioners and provider of cooling solutions, reported on Friday a 51.4% year-on-year growth in its consolidated net profit. For the September quarter of the fiscal year 2027, net profit amounted to 47.71 crore rupees.

According to regulatory filings, in the period from July to September of the previous year, the company achieved a consolidated net profit of 31.5 crore rupees. Operating revenue significantly increased by 15.3% to 2,706.57 crore rupees in the September quarter, compared to 2,347.32 crore rupees in the same quarter last year.

The main driver of growth was the business in the centralized cooling products segment, which showed an increase of 29%. Revenue from this segment reached 1,566.79 crore rupees, compared to 1,215.13 crore rupees in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. The company attributed this to the room air conditioner manufacturing business significantly outperforming the entire industry.

Voltas continues to strengthen its position as a leading room air conditioner brand in India, holding a market share of 17.4% at the end of the period up to September 2026. The company noted that it maintains a 4.2% advantage over its nearest competitor due to its established market presence, consumer preferences, and distribution strength.

Projects Segment and Other Verticals

However, the revenue of the 'Electromechanical Projects and Services' division of the Tata Group company decreased by 15.5% to 816.39 crore rupees in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027. Despite this, the 'Electromechanical Projects and Services' business continued to maintain order momentum, supported by opportunities in infrastructure, industrial, and institutional projects.

Orders were received within internal projects in the fields of industrial infrastructure, electronics manufacturing, metro, tunnels, and data centers. As of September 30, 2026, the backlog of orders in this segment exceeded 6,800 crore rupees, ensuring revenue predictability for both domestic and international projects.

Revenue from engineering products and services increased by 33.32% to 185.39 crore rupees. The revenue growth was driven by performance in the mining equipment and textile machinery sectors. Furthermore, through the joint venture Voltbek Home Appliances with Turkish company Arcelik, Voltas reported record sales in the second quarter, supported by an improved product range, market share growth, and expanded distribution network.

The company is strengthening its presence in the Indian home appliance market, achieving a market share of 8.8% for washing machines and 7% for refrigerators at the end of the reporting period. Voltbek continues to scale up through a wider product range, including a new line of freezers and fully automatic washing machines, as well as through clearer product segmentation and enhanced customer engagement.

Total expenses amounted to 2,622.05 crore rupees, which is 13% higher compared to the same period last year. The company's total income grew by 13.85% to 2,746.08 crore rupees for the reporting quarter. In the first half (H1) of the fiscal year 2027, total consolidated income increased to 7,510.82 crore rupees compared to 6,432.58 crore rupees the previous year.

Commenting on the results, Voltas Managing Director Mukundan Menon C P stated that the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027 reflects the company's continuous progress across various business areas, with growth primarily driven by the room air conditioner business, which showed a volume growth of 32% during the quarter. He also noted that Voltbek continues to scale up and gain market share, while the projects business maintains a healthy order book and disciplined execution.

GAIL's net profit in the second quarter grew to 4,650 crore rupees due to increased gas marketing revenues

The state-owned gas distributor GAIL in India reported more than a twofold increase in quarterly profit, which reached 4,650 crore rupees, driven by significant growth in its natural gas marketing business.

GAIL, the largest natural gas distributor in India by market share, stated that its net profit after tax for the quarter ending September 30 was 4,650 crore rupees (US$489.3 million), compared to 2,217 crore rupees the previous year.

Prior to the earnings announcement, analysts at Jefferies noted that gas consumption in India had recovered to pre-Middle East conflict levels by September.

The company also announced preliminary approval for listing its subsidiary, GAIL Gas, via an IPO, which could potentially involve selling up to 25% of shares, subject to final board approval.

The gas marketing segment, which is GAIL's primary revenue source through wholesale trading and distribution of natural gas, showed growth of over 31%, reaching 41,226 crore rupees. Furthermore, the petrochemical segment's revenue increased by almost 26%, and the natural gas transportation segment grew by 21%.

GAIL's total operating revenue exceeded 30%, amounting to 45,924 crore rupees, while expenses rose by more than 23%.
