MakeMyTrip announced on Friday the acquisition of a controlling stake in 'Quick Ride,' a technology-focused ride-sharing platform, for an undisclosed sum.
This investment allows MakeMyTrip to solidify its presence in the ride-sharing and carpooling segment, complementing the group's existing ground transport portfolio, the company stated.
Quick Ride, based in Bengaluru, is a technology-driven, asset-light ride-sharing platform that connects people traveling along similar routes, providing affordable carpooling for daily commutes.
The 'Quick Ride' brand and its carpooling business underwent an internal restructuring and are now managed under a new entity—Co Ride Mobility Private Limited. MakeMyTrip acquired the Quick Ride brand and its carpooling business with a controlling stake in this company.
Quick Ride's leadership will continue to manage the business. Meanwhile, their previous electric vehicle taxi business will remain with the predecessor organization, iDisha Info Labs Private Limited, MakeMyTrip reported.
Rajesh Magow, co-founder and CEO of MakeMyTrip, noted that as part of its expansion strategy, the company is undertaking selective strategic partnerships, investments, and acquisitions that strengthen and complement its current business while expanding the scope and depth of services offered. He added that carpooling provides presence in high-frequency urban travel as well as intercity transport.
Magow also stated that Quick Ride will be integrated into the ground transport business, and the company will apply the experience gained from creating redBus in Indian and international markets to grow and scale this business.
K.N. Rao, founder and CEO of Quick Ride, said that joining the MakeMyTrip group is an important milestone for both their team and the community of users who trusted them. He expressed hope to leverage MakeMyTrip's reach and travel expertise for further scaling of operations.
In recent years, MakeMyTrip has made acquisitions across various travel segments, including Savaari in car rentals, Happay in corporate travel and expense management, Flamingo Transworld for regional group tours, and through strategic minority investments in Atlys for visa processing.
