The authorities of Tashkent intend to involve the American consulting firm McKinsey & Company in conducting professional development programs and training for city services personnel.
Discussions regarding a potential partnership took place between the mayor of the capital, Shavkat Umurzakov, and the global managing partner of McKinsey & Company, Bob Sternfels. During the meeting, the parties detailedly reviewed the concept of developing 'Tashkent-2030' and methods for improving the urban governance system.
Particular attention was paid to mechanisms for transforming long-term strategic plans into real projects, as well as methods for assessing their effectiveness. Furthermore, the participants studied the management experience of major cities, including Beijing, Riyadh, Dubai, and Moscow, to determine which practices could be successfully adapted for the capital of Uzbekistan.
As a result of the meeting, a decision was made to further develop cooperation in the field of managerial personnel training. It is planned that specialists from McKinsey will participate in the training of city service employees, although the exact start dates and locations of the classes have not yet been determined.
Previously, there was information that heads of Uzbek city administrations might undergo training at the British College of Public Service. This agreement on the start of advanced training courses was reached after a meeting of the Uzbek delegation with the leadership of this educational institution in London.
