Sen Lihao and Wang Zifei Retain Title at ISSF World Championships

Sen Lihao and Wang Zifei successfully defended their title in the mixed team air rifle shooting discipline at the ISSF World Championships held in Doha. The Chinese team concluded its performance at the event in the capital of Qatar with a score of one-two.

In the final, the pair scored 506.1 points, ahead of their compatriots Du Yuchen and Zhang Changhun by 1.7 points. Bronze medals were won by Ban Hye-jin and Park Ha-joon from the Republic of Korea (ROK) with a score of 440.1 points.

The duo from the Republic of Korea took first place in the qualification round, scoring 634.4 points, ahead of Sen and Wang in second, and Du and Zhang in third.

Sen and Wang's lead was established after the first ten shots and maintained throughout the final. Although Du and Zhang managed to temporarily close the gap, the winners ultimately pulled away confidently to secure the gold medals.

This victory marks the third consecutive world title in the mixed team discipline for Sen, following his triumph in 2023 with Huang Yuting in Baku and another with Wang in Cairo last year.

Furthermore, this is the second gold medal for the 21-year-old athlete in two days, as he won his first individual World Championship in men's 10-meter air rifle shooting on Tuesday.

When asked if retaining the title brought additional pressure, the calm Sen replied that there was no such pressure. Wang expressed her desire to continue improving.

She stated: 'I look forward to continuing to improve my results and achieve better performances. I hope to be the best version of myself in every competition.'

In the 25m rapid fire pistol final, Florian Peter from Germany won gold with 33 hits, narrowly beating Clement Bessagué from France, who finished second. His teammate, Jean Kikkampua, won bronze with 26 hits.

Peter's victory also secured a quota spot for Germany at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, while France and the Czech Republic earned quotas thanks to Bessagué and Matej Rampule, who finished fifth.

The championships will continue on Thursday with finals in men's and women's 10m air pistol shooting.
