The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a new step before the start of the T10 League in Abu Dhabi that may complicate the participation of many Pakistani players in the tournament. According to reports, the board required the league organizers to pay $10,000 for each No Objection Certificate (NOC) of a Pakistani player, equivalent to approximately 9.44 lakh rupees.
The tournament is scheduled for November 7. During the draft on September 30, five out of six teams selected Pakistani players. The organizers applied for NOCs for these athletes immediately after the draft, but the Pakistan Cricket Board imposed the payment condition earlier this week.
The franchises found themselves confused due to the tight deadlines. They were faced with a choice: either provide the additional sum of money or replace the Pakistani players with other cricketers. The report also claims that some Pakistani players are willing to cover this amount from their own salaries, foregoing payments from their franchise. Discussions on this matter are ongoing.
The PCB's requirement for monetary compensation instead of an NOC to play in foreign leagues is not the first such case. Last month, the board allegedly demanded $25,000 per player to participate in the Nepal Premier League. Despite this dispute, Hussain Talat and Jahandad Khan continued to participate in the tournament, while most Pakistani players returned without playing matches.
Under the new central contract, the PCB has categorized players into different groups for participation in foreign leagues. Players specializing in T20 and in Track C category can play in many T20 and T10 leagues while retaining access to the national team. Players who play red and ODI cricket (Track AB) are entitled to participate in one foreign league. Meanwhile, baseball specialists (Track BC) can participate in two foreign leagues per year. Players specializing in red ball (Track A) are prohibited from playing in foreign T20 and T10 leagues.
The list of Pakistani players included in the T10 League Abu Dhabi squads includes: Salman Irshad from Arabian Aces; Naseem Shah from Royal Desert Champions; Akif Javed, Hasan Nawaz, and Ali Raju from Emirates Eagles; Shadab Khan, Quaid Nafe, Hushdil Shah, Azam Khan, and Mohammed Wasim Jr. from UAE Bulls; as well as Fahkar Jama, Iftikhar Ahmed, Fahima Ashraf, Sufiyan Mukim, and Abbas Afridi from United Tigers.
