Stellantis has initiated the recall notification for owners of the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe regarding a failure that may delay airbag activation. This campaign covers units from the 2023 and 2024 model years of this plug-in hybrid SUV, which was imported from the United States.
The repair procedure is offered free of charge and consists of updating the software responsible for airbag management. The specific defect lies in the airbag control module, identified by the acronym ORC.
In side-impact situations, this failure can cause a delay in the deployment of airbags located in the front seats. In the US, the manufacturer clarified that the software might retain a temporary error in the door pressure sensors, which assist in detecting the side impact.
Due to the small space between the occupant and the point of impact in these types of collisions, the airbag deployment time is crucial. According to Stellantis, this delay increases the risk of serious or even fatal injuries for both the driver and the front passenger.
This same issue motivated a previous recall that affected over 400,000 units of the Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L models in the United States, communicated in May. It should be noted that this is not the first call for the model in Brazil this year; in March, the same 2023 and 2024 versions were recalled due to battery fire risk.
Service at dealerships began on November 3rd and requires prior scheduling. The inspection and subsequent software update, if necessary, takes approximately one hour. The campaign covers vehicles whose chassis codes are not sequential between P8823878 and R8621893, which can be verified using the last eight digits of the chassis on the vehicle document.
To schedule the service, consumers can use the Jeep website, contact via WhatsApp at (31) 2123-4000, or call 0800 703 7150.
