Emami Ltd reports 36.2% revenue growth and net profit decline in the quarter due to rising costs

Emami Ltd, based in Kolkata, published its results report for the second quarter of the fiscal year 27. During this period, the company demonstrated a 36.2% growth in operating revenue compared to the previous year, reaching INR 1,087.65 crore.

Nevertheless, the net profit after tax (PAT) decreased slightly by 1.92% to INR 145.50 crore in the September quarter of FY27. Previously, in the same period last year, PAT was INR 148.35 crore.

The company's report indicated that the decrease in net profit was mainly due to the normalization of the effective tax rate after the cessation of fiscal benefits, as well as increased raw material costs. Meanwhile, EBITDA increased by 25%, reaching INR 222 crore, and profit before tax grew by 29% to INR 194 crore.

Total expenses in the September quarter of FY27 amounted to INR 865.33 crore, which is 39.57% higher than in the previous quarter.

Business Progress

During the quarter, Emami's domestic business grew by 49%, supported by a 43% increase in volume. However, when looking at comparable figures, excluding data from Axiom Ayurveda and IncNut Digital from the previous period, consolidated revenue increased by 24%, and domestic business grew by 32% with a 26% increase in volume.

The company's international markets reported a 2% decline in revenue due to significant external disruptions in certain regions. Total income, including other receipts, grew by 35.45% to INR 1,110.60 crore in the second quarter of FY27. For the period from April to September FY27, total income increased by 24.21% to INR 2,168.31 crore.

The company noted that, building on the momentum of the first quarter, it achieved another quarter of double-digit growth across a wide range of segments, driven by strong performance from both core brands and strategic investments. These results reflect the company's continuous progress in building a more diversified and future-ready consumer goods portfolio.

The operating environment was challenging, marked by renewed geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, floods in Nepal, persistent inflationary pressure on various goods, and insufficient rainfall in parts of the country.

Despite this, demand remained stable, and the company's diversified portfolio, improved execution, and rapid scaling of new growth engines allowed it to achieve strong financial results. Furthermore, Emami completed a share buyback worth INR 281.24 crore in this quarter.

Vice President and Managing Director Harsha V Agarwal stated that the high efficiency of core brands combined with the rapid expansion of the strategic investment portfolio, which now accounts for about 26% of the domestic business, strengthens the strategy of building multiple growth engines for the future and expanding presence in changing consumer segments.

In a separate filing, Emami informed the board of directors that the board approved the first interim dividend of INR 5 per share with a face value of INR 1 fully paid up for the financial year 2026-27. Emami Ltd shares traded at INR 389.35 on the BSE on Thursday, which was 2.02% higher than the previous day's close.

The metallurgical and mining giant Vedanta Ltd reported significant growth in its performance for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027. The company's net profit increased by 151 percentage points, reaching 6,202 crore rupees.

During this quarter, the company's revenue grew by 57%, amounting to 25,812 crore rupees, while the EBITDA metric reached a record high of 9,938 crore rupees. These results were presented on a consolidated after-tax basis (PAT).

Consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) for the quarter ending in September 2026 was 6,202 crore rupees, more than double the figure of 2,471 crore rupees recorded in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. Total revenue also showed a 57% increase, reaching 25,812 crore rupees compared to 16,445 crore rupees last year.

The company stated in its announcement that EBITDA in Q2FY27 reached a record 9,938 crore rupees, showing a 17 percent quarter-on-quarter growth. This growth is attributed to favorable market and regulatory factors, as well as volumes, marketing, and other advantages, although some growth was offset by increased costs.

Furthermore, the company's net debt decreased by 4,624 crore rupees quarter-on-quarter, standing at 3,675 crore rupees compared to 8,299 crore rupees in June 2026. This reduction was primarily driven by cash flow from operating activities. In the September 2026 quarter, Vedanta generated free cash flow before capital expenditures of 5,803 crore rupees, which is higher than 4,412 crore rupees in Q1 FY27.

From July to September 2026, the company invested 1,135 crore rupees in capital expenditures for growth, accumulating a total investment of 2,283 crore rupees in the first half of the current fiscal year. He also mentioned the successful commissioning of Gamsberg Phase II in Zinc International, record chrome ore production, and 100% raw material assurance in FACOR, as well as the highest quarterly cathode output in Copper India. Misra added that the capital expenditure of 1,135 crore rupees in the second quarter was directed towards developing growth projects, expanding capacities, exploring deposits, and securing the resource base across the portfolio.

The company reported that the Zinc India business achieved a record production of mined metals in the second quarter, totaling 271 thousand tonnes, which is 5 percent higher than last year. Meanwhile, silver production increased by 20 percent, reaching 173 tonnes for the quarter. Jindal Stainless profit grew by 11% to 898 crore rupees, revenue increased by 18% in the second quarter of fiscal year 27

Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL), India's largest stainless steel producer, reported an 11% rise in profit after tax (PAT) to 898 crore rupees for the quarter ending September 2026. This figure surpasses the 808 crore rupees recorded in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year (2025-26). The company's revenue for this period also increased by 18%, reaching 12,874 crore rupees compared to 10,893 crore rupees last year.

The company noted that this quarter marked a steady recovery following operational disruptions in the first quarter, which were caused by the geopolitical situation and restrictions on industrial gas supply. Quarterly, the company demonstrated a growth in total sales volume of 14.4% and an increase in net revenue of 14.1%.

JSL explained that demand was sustained by the increase in the share of value-added products, as well as growth in the automotive industry and decorative pipes and fittings segments. The company also highlighted that globally, plates and ferritic grades have gained wide adoption, especially in home appliances, elevators, and escalators.

Meanwhile, the domestic market has seen increased import pressure since April 2026. JSL indicated that in July 2026, imports of flat stainless steel products from China reached 2.9 times the average monthly figure for the 2026 fiscal year, and the first four months of the 2027 fiscal year accounted for about 63% of all imports from China in the previous year.

JSL's exports significantly increased during the quarter, rising by 20% quarterly and 36% year-on-year. The company continues to expand its global presence, focusing particularly on developing markets such as South Korea, Colombia, South Africa, Brazil, and Japan.

Furthermore, the company's board of directors approved the merger of Chromeni Steels Limited, Rabirun Vinimay Private Limited, JSL Super Steel, and Jindal United Steel into Jindal Stainless Limited to simplify the group structure. JSL stated that the consolidation of wholly-owned subsidiaries will optimize the use of financial and other resources, enhance operational efficiency, reduce administrative and compliance costs, eliminate intra-group transactions and balances, strengthen corporate governance, and promote better management oversight and decision-making, thereby creating long-term value for all stakeholders.

Commenting on the results, JSL Managing Director Abhiuday Jindal noted that the company achieved growth in the second quarter based on the recovery from the geopolitical crisis that affected operations in the first quarter. This success was driven by stable domestic demand, supported by strong economic growth and increased sensitivity to the life-cycle cost approach. He added that after suspending quality control orders and the subsequent influx of substandard stainless steel imports into India, particularly from China and of Chinese origin, the company focused on maintaining sales volumes by serving growing domestic markets and seeking new export destinations.
