A 1985 Ford F-250, acquired for approximately R$ 4.4 thousand (equivalent to US$ 800), became an attraction at the Ford booth during the Sema Show 2026, a modified vehicle fair in the United States.
The vehicle was discovered after years of abandonment on a rural property in Oregon, found by Matt Johnson, a mechanical engineer and owner of Doc Johnson Restorations workshop. Initially, the intention was to use the pickup truck as a support vehicle for the workshop, but the project evolved significantly, culminating in the installation of a powerful V8 engine and suspension overhaul.
The original concept of the project involved installing a four-cylinder 2.3 EcoBoost engine in an old Toyota Land Cruiser, and Johnson was negotiating this adaptation with Ford Racing, the manufacturer's high-performance parts division. However, Ford suggested a Heritage line V8 engine, leading Johnson to propose using the F-250 stored at the workshop, which resulted in the cancellation of the plan with the Land Cruiser.
During preparation, the original chassis and body were maintained. However, under the hood, a Ford Racing 7.5 V8 engine was installed, delivering 583 hp and 79.5 kgfm, coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. This engine is based on the old Ford 351 Windsor V8.
John Carrick, from the preparer Carrick Customs, modified the original Twin Traction-Beam (TTB) front suspension. Instead of opting for a solid axle or independent suspension, he preserved the original geometry, increasing the travel to accommodate 37-inch Mickey Thompson Baja tires.
Ford documented the entire development process in a series of 92 posts on its social media and stated that the F-250 will not be put up for sale. Furthermore, the manufacturer issued a warning that the modifications made may compromise the truck's compliance with traffic regulations.
The Sema Show 2026 will take place until Friday, the 6th, in Las Vegas. At this event, the F-250 shares space with other notable creations, such as the Mustang Kingpin, which has 811 hp and was prepared by Ringbrothers.
