Binance covered 95% of the damage after a $6.3 billion cyberattack

The cryptocurrency exchange Binance has begun the phased restoration of its withdrawal service following a major cyberattack. The company reported that it managed to cover almost 95% of the incurred losses with its own funds.

According to information published on the company's official website, withdrawals were first resumed on the Bitcoin network. Subsequent recovery phases are planned to cover operations with assets such as Ethereum, BNB, Solana, USDT, and other cryptocurrencies.

According to the company itself, the damage caused by the cyberattack amounted to $6.3 billion, of which nearly 95% was compensated from the exchange's own funds. The remaining 5% relates to low-liquidity cryptocurrency assets.

It should be recalled that on October 29, hackers infiltrated Binance's internet-connected crypto wallets and stole approximately $6.3 billion in assets. Following this, the exchange temporarily suspended withdrawal operations.

With the assistance of law enforcement agencies and partners, about $3 billion in stolen assets was frozen in blockchain networks.

On October 31, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that the hacker group TraderTraitor, linked to North Korea, was behind this cyberattack. According to the FBI, the criminals converted part of the stolen funds into Ethereum cryptocurrency. Law enforcement agencies continue to monitor the further actions of these individuals.

The investigation into the mechanism of the cyberattack is ongoing. Initial information pointed to a possible hacking of one of the company's engineers' laptops, but other vulnerabilities were subsequently identified.

Binance emphasizes that it assumes all financial losses, and clients will not suffer any losses. The exchange plans to publish a full technical report after the verification is complete.

Share of national currency settlements in EAEU reached 93.5%

According to data presented at the meeting of the Council on Monetary Policy of the central banks of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the share of settlements in national currencies for the export and import of goods and services in 2025 was 93.5%.

This was reported by Roman Golovchenko, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus, at the meeting of the Council on Monetary Policy of the central (national) banks of the EAEU member states. According to him, in the first eight months of the current year, the volume of mutual trade between EAEU countries reached $67.6 billion, an increase of 11.5% compared to the same period last year.

Forecasts indicate that the volume of mutual trade this year will grow by 10%, reaching almost $106 billion. Roman Golovchenko emphasized that this speed of mutual trade confirms the economic stability of the EAEU countries, including their ability to withstand external pressure, as well as the need for integration ties.

Participants of the meeting discussed the current economic situation in the EAEU countries, the process of implementing monetary and credit policy, and exchanged experiences in combating illegal payment operations. Furthermore, they considered the experience of using central bank digital currencies of EAEU countries and the prospects for their implementation, as well as issues of virtual asset regulation.
