According to the Iranian Statistical Center, the country's current population exceeds 87 million people, and it is expected to reach 87.134 million by the end of the current Iranian year, in March 2027. IRNA reported that the urban and rural populations amount to about 67 million and 20 million, respectively.

Moreover, the average household size is less than 3.2 (3.19) people, which is the lowest figure since the 1950s.

In the previous Iranian calendar year (from March 2025 to March 2026), 892,227 births and 459,984 deaths were registered. Most births and deaths were recorded in the summer and spring, respectively.

Life expectancy in Iran has increased, but the birth rate has declined. Aging trends in Iran are accelerating faster than the global average, causing the country to enter the ranks of the world's oldest countries within 25 years.
