The German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has officially introduced its new electric SUV model, the Mercedes GLC Electric, to the Indian market. This SUV features an attractive design and a powerful battery pack, with a starting price set at 78.5 thousand rupees (excluding taxes).
The company plans to localize the assembly of this electric model. Based on a 400V architecture, the company asserts that the vehicle is capable of covering a distance of up to 711 kilometers on a single charge (according to WLTP certification), although the actual mileage may vary depending on road conditions, driving style, and vehicle load.
Prior to the official launch, the electric SUV received significant positive feedback. According to the company, over 1000 pre-orders were placed, allowing all units to be sold out until March 2027. Vehicle delivery is scheduled for the Diwali period.
Mercedes-Benz has increased the dimensions of the new GLC Electric compared to its gasoline and diesel versions. The electric SUV is 140 mm longer, 23 mm wider, and 12 mm higher. Furthermore, the increased wheelbase by 84 mm results in an overall length of 2972 mm, providing more cabin space.
The car is available in six different colors: Sher Blue, Lavender Silver, Obsidian Black, Opalite White Bright, Patagonia Red Metallic, and Alpine Grey Solid. The last three colors are available with a special factory paint option.
The standard configuration includes the AMG styling package, giving the car a sportier look. It is equipped with large 20-inch alloy wheels, as well as front and rear bumpers in AMG design. Instead of excessive protrusions, the body features a clean and smooth style. The rear section has a glossy black panel with headlights and the Mercedes logo.
A distinctive design feature is the front grille, which contains 914 individual LED elements. These lights form various patterns when parking, starting, or turning the car off. The grille design is inspired by classic Mercedes models such as the Mercedes W114 and W108.
The interior of the GLC Electric resembles a cinema thanks to a grand 39.1-inch hyper-screen that spans from one end of the dashboard to the other. It is important to note that this is a single large display, not a set of three separate screens, without visible borders. This reduces the number of physical buttons, including climate control, which is operated via the screen. Despite this, the screen response is fast, and the graphics are high resolution; users can change the screen appearance using 11 preset themes.
Wood, metal, and leather have been used to enhance the luxury inside. The center console is finished with open-pore black wood, and the air vents feature metallic accents. The car is equipped with a 3D Burmester audio system with 15 speakers. As an AMG Line model, it features a four-spoke sports steering wheel. Customers have three upholstery options: black, medium brown, and ivory.
The car integrates a panoramic glass roof with a starry effect, although a traditional sunshade is absent. Instead, the driver can electronically adjust the glass transparency. Other features include two wireless phone chargers, ambient lighting, AI-based functions, an electric trunk, and electrically folding rear seats.
In terms of safety, the company has made no compromises. The car is equipped with Level-2 ADAS driver assistance system, which operates using 8 cameras and 5 radars. It also includes automatic parking, a 360-degree camera, and nine airbags. The front seats have massage and heating functions, although ventilation is not available. The trunk volume is 570 liters, and there is an additional storage compartment (frunk) under the hood with a capacity of 128 liters.
The GLC Electric is equipped with a large 94 kWh battery pack and two electric motors—one in the front and one in the rear.
