Blair Tickner achieves historic feat by hitting 4 sixes in one game against India

In the first day match between India and New Zealand, held at Eden Park stadium in Auckland, the Indian batsmen demonstrated an impressive performance. Before the powerful displays by the Indian players, the New Zealand team was struggling, losing 9 wickets for 146 runs.

At this moment, fast bowler Blair Tickner came onto the field to bat at number 11 and created a real storm. Tickner launched a lightning attack, scoring 34 runs with one four and four sixes in just 23 balls, thereby setting a major world record in ODI cricket format.

During this aggressive innings, Blair Tickner hit three sixes in the last over bowled by Arsh Deep Singh. Because of this, he became the third player in ODI history to hit four sixes in a single innings while batting at number 11. Before him, this feat was achieved only by Mohammad Amir of Pakistan (four sixes against England in 2016) and Naseem Shah of New Zealand (four sixes against New Zealand in 2025).

Tickner's achievement broke the 23-year record set by legendary fast bowler Shane Bond. Bond hit three sixes against India in Auckland on January 11, 2003. Now, after 23 years, Blair Tickner has created new history by hitting four sixes. This elite group also includes Chris Priingle (2 sixes against West Indies in 1994) and Trent Boult (2 sixes against Sri Lanka in 2015).

Thanks to this counter-attacking innings, the New Zealand team managed to achieve a competitive total of 185 runs in 40.2 overs. In the New Zealand team, Tim Seifert scored 38 runs, and Glenn Phillips scored 30 runs. For India, Arsh Deep Singh took 4 wickets, Gurnoor Barar took 3 wickets, and Anshul Kamboj took 2 wickets.

India's New Philosophy in T20: Team Ready to Attack Despite Bowling Issues

India won the first T20 match against New Zealand, achieving a target of 226 runs in 19.4 overs.

This victory was achieved not only through strong batting but also demonstrates the Indian team's aggressive approach to chasing targets, unafraid to take risks. Despite shortcomings in the bowling game, the batsmen managed to compensate for these weaknesses with their power.

India's strategy became clear: instead of restricting the opponent to a low score, the team found it more advantageous to surpass their total. However, such a tactic will only be effective if there are consistent high performances in the attack, as chasing a target of 225 runs every day will not be easy.

The target of 226 runs indicates that serious questions face the Indian bowling unit. Allowing over 200 runs in T20 itself is a signal that the strategy, length, and line of the delivery need improvement, especially towards the end of the match. Nevertheless, India's batting completely changed the course of the game.

By reaching 230/6, India proved that its batting does not depend solely on stars. The squad includes players capable of increasing aggression under the pressure of a difficult task.

This victory is more of a statement about batting strength than a success of bowling.

Sanjju Samson laid a solid foundation for the chase, scoring 67 runs off 33 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. His key contribution was preventing the pressure of a large score from overwhelming the Indian batting.

Samson showed from the beginning that simply preserving wickets is insufficient to achieve a target of 226 runs; maintaining tempo and putting pressure on the bowlers is necessary. His play allowed subsequent batsmen to play in a more open manner.

The performances of Shreyas Iyer with 42 runs and Naman Dira without getting out for 42 runs (off 15 balls) were important elements of this victory. Axar Patel also made a useful contribution of 24 runs.

The significance of these innings is not limited to the runs scored. When chasing a big score, the quick start of one batsman must be supported by others. This is where Shreyas and Naman played their role.

Naman's unbeaten knock was particularly crucial, as the match needed to be concluded even after approaching the target. India demonstrated that it has options to score runs at different stages of the match, winning in 19.4 overs.

Despite the brilliant victory, it is crucial to understand the other side of the coin. Reaching a target of 226 runs shows India's strength, but this does not allow for ignoring the bowling deficiencies.

India's aggressive strategy is its strength, but a truly strong team is one that can control the game with both batting and bowling. India has shown that a large score is an opportunity to attack, not a cause for fear.

However, to maintain this dominance in the series, the bowlers will have to raise their level. India's new T20 declaration is this: if you make 225, we will make 226. But true dominance will come when the ball rules over the opponent alongside the bat.

Ranjji Jalaj Saxena achieved a historic result in the season, equaling Bishan Singh Bedi's record

In the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season, Kerala secured a convincing victory over Odisha, winning by one innings and 36 runs. This match took place at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, and experienced all-rounder Jalaj Saxena was the main hero of the victory. He dismantled the Odisha attack in the second innings, taking 5 wickets, which equaled the outstanding spinner Bishan Singh Bedi in a certain record.

At the age of 39, Jalaj Saxena bowled 18 overs in the match against Odisha, conceding 34 runs while taking 5 wickets. Seven of these overs were maiden overs. This was his thirty-fifth time taking five wickets in a single game in the Ranji Trophy. With this achievement, he tied for fifth place in the list of bowlers who have taken the most five-wicket hauls in the tournament, alongside Bishan Singh Bedi.

However, former Indian spinner Rajinder Goel leads this list, having achieved the feat of taking five or more wickets in a single innings 59 times in the Ranji Trophy.

Bowlers helped Kerala win after batsmen's performance

In the first innings, Kerala scored 404 runs. Mohammed Azhuddin, who remained unbeaten on 139*, and Sachin Baby, who scored 112 runs, contributed significantly to this total. In response, Odisha managed only 225 runs in its first innings, giving Kerala a lead of 179 runs. Kerala decided to offer Odisha a follow-on, and the Odisha team could not recover in the second innings.

In the second innings, Odisha was reduced to 143 runs. Opening batsman Gaurav Chaudhary scored 53 runs, and captain Subhranshu Senapati added 30 runs. Nevertheless, before Jalaj Saxena's brilliant performance, the other batsmen could not hold on. Kerala concluded the match with a victory by an innings and 36 runs.

Kerala earned seven points

Thanks to this victory, Kerala earned seven points in the elite Group C of the Ranji Trophy. The team had previously earned only one point in the opening matches against Jharkhand but demonstrated a strong recovery against Odisha. Jalaj Saxena proves his worth by regularly taking wickets even at the age of 39.
