Content Creator Explains Choice of Working in the USA Despite Lower Starting Income in Rupees

A discussion arose on social media regarding the choice between earning an annual income of 4 million Indian rupees in India or about $1.89 million USD per year in America. Content creator Umang Choudhary shared his opinion, stating that he would prefer the American salary of $200,000 over the Indian package of 4 million rupees.

The reasons for his choice lie not only in the higher earnings but also in the opportunities for savings and career growth.

In a video published by Umang Choudhary on Instagram, he compared the wage levels in India and the USA. He emphasized that even when choosing between 4 million rupees in India and $100,000 in the USA, he would still choose the option in America.

Umang justified his choice by saying that specialists in America's technology sector can start their careers with a salary of around $100,000. According to his forecasts, this income could grow to $200,000 in two to three years. However, he clarified that this is only potential career growth, which is not guaranteed to every employee.

In his video, Umang presented a calculation of the annual income of $200,000. According to his estimates, approximately 20–25 percent of this amount would go towards taxes, amounting to about $50,000. Additionally, he budgeted $50,000 for living expenses and other costs. Thus, he believes a person can save about $100,000 annually.

Umang believes that with this level of savings over three to five years, one can build a significant fortune, forecasting accumulation up to 50 million rupees over five years. He added that this calculation is based on his assumptions, as actual savings depend on many factors such as taxes, housing, family, medical insurance, and lifestyle.

Umang did not limit himself to financial aspects, considering the advantages of working in the USA. He noted that working there for three to five years can contribute to changes in professional experience and worldview. The acquired experience can be useful in future career paths. He also mentioned that after several years of working in America, a person has a range of options: they can return to India, move to another country, or stay in the USA. This decision will depend on personal circumstances, such as family, relationships, and visa status. Furthermore, Umang listed clean air and improved living conditions as among the pros of America.

Social media users' opinions on Umang's view were mixed. One user would prefer to stay in India with a salary of 4 million rupees, as peace of mind from being near family and friends is more important to them. This same user also noted that the salary of 4 million rupees in India could increase to 6–8 million or even more in the future. Another commentator stressed the importance of proximity to family and friends in India, as well as help with daily tasks. In turn, one user pointed out the high costs in America, including taxes, property taxes, car insurance, and health insurance.

It becomes clear from this discussion that it is impossible to determine which country will be more profitable for work based solely on salary figures. Although the income may be higher in America, there are also other significant expenses there, such as taxes, housing, and medical insurance. At the same time, the experience of living with an annual salary of 4 million rupees in India can vary depending on the city, family, and spending habits.

Indian woman who worked in Australia with a salary of 1.33 crore rupees advises considering expenses

Many people who find work abroad tend to assess their earnings by converting them into Indian rupees. However, as shown by the Indian woman Anu Sharma, who worked as a software engineer in Australia, a high salary does not guarantee that the entire amount will remain in savings. She shared a detailed calculation of her income and expenses.

Despite an annual package of about 1.33 crore rupees, after deducting taxes, paying rent, and daily expenses, she could save approximately 2 to 2.7 lakhs of rupees monthly.

Before moving to Australia, Anu Sharma held the position of a full-time software engineer at Google in India. In early 2026, she moved to Australia, where she began working at Palantir Technologies as a Forward Deployed Software Engineer. According to her LinkedIn profile, she currently also manages her own business. Anu told a video published on Instagram that she traveled to Australia alone, providing details of her salary, as well as information on living and food expenses.

According to Anu, her annual salary in Australia was 200 thousand Australian dollars (AUD), which is equivalent to approximately 1.33 crore Indian rupees. Nevertheless, she emphasized that the entire amount of this large salary does not stay in one's pocket, as a significant portion of the income went towards taxes. In her estimation, about 40 percent of the amount was withheld as tax.

After paying taxes, the biggest expense was housing rent. For an apartment in central Sydney, she had to pay about 750 Australian dollars per week, which amounts to approximately 50 thousand Indian rupees. Additionally, she spent about 400 Australian dollars weekly on groceries, which equals approximately 27 thousand rupees. Transportation costs in the city were about 100 Australian dollars per week, or 6.7 thousand rupees. Thus, total expenses for rent, groceries, and transport reached approximately 5,416 Australian dollars per month, corresponding to about 3.61 lakh rupees.

Even after accounting for all these expenses and taxes, Anu could save from 3,000 to 4,000 Australian dollars monthly. In Indian rupees, this amount was approximately between 2 to 2.7 lakhs. Anu explained that her decision to move to Australia was driven not only by the desire to earn more money; the work culture and the experience of self-discovery gained while traveling alone were also important to her.

Anu advised those planning to work abroad not to make decisions based solely on the annual package. It is crucial to understand not only the salary amount in the country but also the associated taxes, housing costs, and daily expenditures. In her opinion, the true comparison should be based on the amount remaining after covering all monthly expenses.

Wealthy Buyers Purchase Elite Real Estate in India: Major Deals in Mumbai and Gurugram

Prices for luxury real estate in India are reaching new heights. In 2026, numerous property deals exceeding 100 crore rupees were concluded, ranging from luxurious seaside apartments in Mumbai to ultra-luxury penthouses in Gurugram.

Among the major transactions: Dinesh Thakkar, founder of Angel One, signed an agreement to purchase an entire residential building in Juhu, Mumbai, for approximately 711 crore rupees. Concurrently, entrepreneur Manav Sardana acquired a penthouse in Gurugram valued at 271 crore rupees.

According to the report, many prominent businessmen, investors, and industrialists are purchasing expensive residential properties in both Mumbai and Gurugram this year. Some of the largest real estate deals concluded by 2026 are presented below.

Dinesh Thakkar, founder, chairman, and managing director of Angel One, entered into a contract to acquire an entire residential building in the Embassy Terracea project in Juhu, Mumbai, for approximately 711 crore rupees. The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this deal. This building has seven floors in addition to the ground floor, and its area according to RERA standards is about 63,000 square feet, corresponding to a price of approximately 1.13 lakh rupees per square foot.

The purchase of two apartments in the Naman Zeena project, located in Versova, Mumbai, by Tani Dubash and her Shola Real Estates, is among the major real estate deals of 2026. This transaction is particularly significant because the demand for premium sea-view apartments in the Versova area of Mumbai remains consistently high. Large homes, excellent locations, and private amenities attract ultra-wealthy buyers.

Entrepreneur Manav Sardana purchased a penthouse in the ultra-luxury 'The Dahliyas' project by DLF, located on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, for around 271 crore rupees. This property is considered one of the most expensive single residential transactions in the country. The super area of this penthouse is approximately 17,200 square feet, with a usable area of about 10,500 square feet. Based on the total cost, its price is about 1.58 lakh rupees per square foot of super area and about 2.6 lakh rupees per square foot of usable area.

A notable feature of this deal is that such a large sum was allocated to a single penthouse, indicating that Gurugram is strengthening its position as one of the most expensive housing markets in the country.

Investor Madhusudan Kela acquired an apartment in the The Dahliyas project by DLF in Gurugram for approximately 121 crore rupees. This deal was included in the list of major elite real estate purchases of 2026. Sales of homes worth over 100 crore rupees in this project demonstrate growing demand for the premium real estate market in Gurugram. Buyers here are willing to spend large sums not only on housing but also for the best location, private amenities, and a special lifestyle.
