The Dobsie Grannies team won the Wafa Wafa Cup 2026 title on Saturday, October 31st. The trophy and new football kit were presented to them at the Entabeni Sports Ground in Gold 2, Soweto.

The annual tournament, organized by the Diskie Gogos Foundation, gathered eight women's teams aged 55 and over. They competed for honor, community recognition, and certificates of participation.

This year's competition featured teams such as Sosha Gogos, Mamelodi Sundowns Gogos, Golden Oldies, Braamfischer Grannies, Dobsie Grannies, Kings and Queens of Alex, Motlana Grannies, and Vosloorus Grannies.

Babalwa Nhlapo, founder and director of the Diskie Gogos Foundation, emphasized the importance of this event. She stated that the tournament helps make the place of these women in football and their communities more visible, as the foundation's work focuses on highlighting the women behind the teams, not just the matches themselves.

The Kings and Queens of Alex team, which finished in second place, received silver medals, training vests, and two footballs. All participating teams were issued certificates of participation.

Nhlapo also noted that the tournament aims to raise awareness about sports among older women and encourage an active lifestyle. The Diskie Gogos Foundation intends to continue holding this tournament annually.
