Young South African Graduate Expresses Disappointment in Politics and Doubts Voting Necessity Due to Unemployment

A graduate from South Africa, who completed his studies in 2020, reported losing interest in participating in elections due to disappointment with the government's actions. He noted that despite diligent studies, he is still facing difficulties finding stable employment.

Speaking about elections, he emphasized that politicians regularly promise job creation and improved citizens' lives, but he has personally not observed the expected changes. It is difficult for him to possess qualifications without a stable income or employment, which causes deep frustration, even if he acknowledges the right to vote as democratic.

The main problems causing concern in South Africa are cited as the high rate of unemployment among young professionals and the extremely high cost of living. Many young people possess the necessary knowledge but cannot find jobs to support themselves and their families.

The constant rise in prices for food, electricity, transport, and other necessities complicates life even for those who are employed. The author describes the stress of depending on relatives after striving for financial independence. Furthermore, serious issues include corruption, crime, poverty, and low quality of public services, which, in his opinion, indicates the government's inability to help young people build a better future.

Despite the feeling of disappointment, the author maintains faith in the possibility of improvement in South Africa. He expresses a desire to contribute to youth gaining access to employment opportunities, training programs, scholarships, and education, believing that information and guidance can change a person's destiny.

He also calls for the implementation of principles of honesty, accountability, and equal opportunities. His dream is to see a South Africa where qualified young people have a fair chance to succeed, and citizens can afford basic needs, and families can live without constant financial hardship. Although interest in voting may have waned, hope for a better future for South Africa remains.

Software Engineer's Doubts About Career Due to Low Salary and Job Instability in Tech Sector

Despite years of study, project creation, and interview preparation to become a software engineer, job security is absent, and job stability after obtaining the position is not guaranteed. Amid layoffs in the technology industry, growing competition, and the increasing influence of artificial intelligence (AI), one software engineer has questioned their career decision. Following the publication of this post on social media, a discussion began about how safe and attractive a career in technology remains.

A technical specialist named Aisha shared her opinion on the social network X. She ponders whether pursuing software engineering was the right choice. According to Aisha, people spend years mastering technical skills, developing projects, and preparing for interviews. Nevertheless, they have to compete with thousands of candidates for a single vacancy. Moreover, there is no certainty that the job will be retained the next day after getting it. She also questions the point of all the effort if the job can disappear at any moment.

User opinions in response to Aisha's post were varied. One user expressed understanding of her concern but simultaneously raised the question of whether similar salaries could be obtained in other sectors. This user noted that software engineering offers good earning potential, but difficulties are also increasing in this field. Furthermore, the use of artificial intelligence raises questions about whether high salaries associated with application development can be maintained in the long term. Another user found the uncertainty about job permanence exhausting. At the same time, one user pointed to civil service as a more stable alternative.

Growing Anxiety Among Tech Company Employees Due to AI and Layoffs

Software engineering was long considered a field with good pay and career growth opportunities. However, the growing application of AI, companies' attempts to reduce costs, and layoff reports have intensified concerns among people working in this sector. Thus, Aisha's post reflects not only the personal doubts of one individual about their career but also a nationwide discussion about the safety and future of work in the technology industry. It should be noted, however, that this opinion, expressed on social media, does not allow for the conclusion that career opportunities in software engineering are disappearing.
