Harley-Davidson, known for its massive cruisers on American roads, has released a new model—the Harley-Davidson Sprint 440. This motorcycle is the most budget-friendly cruiser model from Harley and was developed in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp. Despite its American design and brand, the bike incorporates the strength of Indian engineering.
The Sprint 440, assembled in India, is preparing for its global debut. Notably, this motorcycle, manufactured in India, will become a new representative of the American brand on roads worldwide. It differs from the existing X440 in its design and riding experience.
The model features a long and low silhouette, wide handlebars, and a comfortable seat, giving it the look of a traditional cruiser. The company plans to launch this bike in markets around the world. The first presentation will take place at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy, with deliveries to America scheduled for 2027.
The new Sprint 440 is built on the 440cc platform, but its appearance significantly differs from the X440. While the X440 has a roadster style, the Sprint 440 fully aligns with the image of a classic cruiser. The model is equipped with a low and long silhouette, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a downward-sloping rider seat, and rearward-curved handlebars.
Furthermore, the bike includes a small rear fender, a separate stepped passenger seat, and a low-mounted exhaust system. The design is aimed at customers who prefer the classic look of a cruiser combined with a comfortable ride.
The Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 is fitted with a single-cylinder 440cc engine. This air and oil-cooled engine generates 26.7 hp at 6000 rpm and 38 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. The engine is connected to a six-speed gearbox and equipped with assist and slipper clutch systems.
The engine parameters are similar to the X440, but the company does not position the Sprint 440 as a high-speed or sporty motorcycle. The main focus is on providing better low-speed torque and a comfortable riding experience, which is characteristic of most cruisers. The company claims the motorcycle can achieve a fuel consumption of about 34 kilometers per liter.
Despite this, a compromise was reached regarding the fuel tank: the Sprint 440 has a 9-liter tank, whereas the X440 sold in India is equipped with a 13.5-liter tank. The company reduced the tank volume due to the cruiser's compact design.
To meet customer needs, the company will also offer seat options for tall and short riders. This will allow drivers to choose a seat according to their height.
Despite its classic design, the Sprint 440 retains modern features. It is equipped with a 3.5-inch round TFT instrument cluster. Additionally, the motorcycle features a full LED lighting system and a USB Type-C port above the headlight.
The company will also provide a range of optional accessories, including a detachable windscreen, side panniers, a passenger backrest, engine protection, and alternative handlebar designs. These accessories will allow owners to customize the bike for their needs, whether for daily commuting or weekend trips.
Harley-Davidson has set the starting price for the Sprint 440 in the UK at £4995 (equivalent to approximately 6.5 lakh Indian Rupees). Deliveries are expected to begin next year. It is important to note that the final assembly of motorcycles intended for America will be carried out at the Harley-Davidson plant in York, Pennsylvania.
