There is an unconfirmed story that Warren Buffett, the 96-year-old billionaire, allegedly did not drink water for 48 years because he preferred other beverages. This fact was mentioned by hedge fund manager Bill Ekman.
Bill Ekman shared this in a podcast while recalling a dinner meeting with Buffett. When Ekman asked if he wanted mineral or sparkling water, the billionaire declined and requested his favorite substitute—Coca-Cola.
A report based on Ekman's podcast notes that it is unclear how seriously Buffett took the claim about disliking water, or if it was a joke. Nevertheless, his fondness for Coca-Cola is well-known; reports suggest the investor consumes up to five cans of Coke per day. Buffett often speaks openly about his habit of drinking Coca-Cola.
According to The Standard report, in 2015, Warren Buffett stated that Coca-Cola accounted for 25% of his daily calorie intake. However, his diet includes many more options than just Coca-Cola. During commutes, he regularly stops at McDonald's for breakfast, ordering hot dogs, french fries, popcorn, cookies, candy, and ice cream.
Interestingly, before switching to Coca-Cola in 1986, Buffett was loyal to Pepsi for 48 years at the annual Berkshire Hathaway meeting.
Coca-Cola is not only Warren Buffett's favorite drink but also one of his most successful investments. Berkshire Hathaway took a position in Coca-Cola in 1988 and 1989 worth $1.3 billion and has held about a 9% stake since then. This initial investment has yielded the billionaire a return of approximately 21 times.
