Vaibha Suryavanshi awaits new tournament after New Zealand tour

New challenges have emerged for Vaibha Suryavanshi following the conclusion of the tour in New Zealand. During the five-match T20 series between India and New Zealand, Vaibha was given limited playing time. Since Ishan Kishan sustained an injury, 15-year-old Vaibha only featured in the second and third matches.

In the third match, playing as the third strike bowler for Hegle Owel in Christchurch, Vaibha scored 4 runs. Later, when given the opportunity to be part of the starting XI at Henry Stadium in Wellington, he demonstrated impressive play, scoring 45 runs in just 19 balls through 4 sixes and four fours.

In the other three matches, Vaibha Suryavanshi was not included in the main squad, which raised questions. Now, the Indian team is set to play a five-match ODI series in New Zealand, as well as a two-match Test series. Vaibha, known as 'Bibi Boss', is not part of either of these series, so he is returning to India.

Nevertheless, Vaibha does not intend to stay away from cricket for long. The domestic T20 tournament Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2026-27 season begins on November 14th. There are high hopes that Vaibha will also participate in this tournament. Although the Bihar team's squad for this tournament has not yet been announced, his selection is considered almost inevitable. Bihar is included in the elite Group B of the upcoming SMAT season.

As part of SMAT 2026-27, the Bihar team will face Saurodra on November 14th, followed by Railway on November 16th, Delhi on November 18th, Jammu and Kashmir on November 20th, Tamil Nadu on November 22nd, Haryana on November 24th, and Punjab on November 26th.

Concurrently, the Men's Asia Cup Rising Stars 2026 tournament will take place in Doha, the capital of Qatar, starting November 19th. Vaibha Suryavanshi has been selected for the India-A team for this tournament, meaning he may play no more than two matches for Bihar in the SMAT. The India-A squad for the Asian Cup was announced on November 2nd (Monday).

The left-handed batsman Vaibha Suryavanshi has played 44 T20 matches in his career. In this time, he has scored 1772 runs with an average of 41.20 and a strike rate of 213.75. In T20 cricket, Vaibha has hit 4 centuries and 8 half-centuries. He has also hit 156 sixes and 142 fours in T20 cricket.

Vaibha Suryavanshi on New Zealand tour: experience playing different roles and limited time on the field

The tours to New Zealand proved to be a real test for 15-year-old Vaibha Suryavanshi. He had to face various scenarios: he was moved from an opening position to the third in the lineup, and after impressive matches, he sometimes had to remain outside the main squad. In five T20 matches, he managed to play in only two games. Among all the questions related to the fight for a spot in the team and batting order, the main one remains: what lessons did Vaibha learn from this visit?

Playing at number three, Vaibha scored only 4 off 8 balls. However, when he returned to the opening position, he demonstrated his true potential, scoring 45 runs off 19 balls. Despite this good performance, he was not given the opportunity to play in the next match. He faced the high demands of international cricket, the challenge of fast bowlers, and the need to master a new role in the attack, but did this add anything new to his game?

The visit to New Zealand was not just a foreign series for Vaibha Suryavanshi. Playing international cricket at the age of 15 is a significant achievement in itself. Here, he got a chance to face world-class fast bowlers, play in different conditions, and understand how to earn a place in the team. Nevertheless, there is also a big question hidden in this tour story: Vaibha was in the team, but spent most of his time on the bench. In the five-match series, he played only twice.

First, he was sent to the position of the third batsman, which was different from his usual spot, and he couldn't perform there. Then he returned to the opening and put on a real explosion. But even after a good innings, he wasn't given consistent chances. Thus, the tour to New Zealand gave Vaibha experience but did not allow him enough matches to correct his mistakes.

Vaibha's main strength lies in attacking bowlers early in the innings. His distinguishing feature has been hitting powerful shots, utilizing the advantages of fielding restrictions during the powerplay. However, in the second T20 against New Zealand, he was sent to the position of the third batsman for the first time. This was a new role for him.

In this position, he had to solve the problem of not being aggressive from the start, but rather understanding the situation and continuing the innings after other players fell. The fast bowlers of New Zealand also tested him. A bowler with a speed of 143.5 km/h put him in a difficult situation. Vaibha got a chance but failed to take it and was dismissed, scoring 4 runs off 8 balls.

This innings taught him an important lesson: in international cricket, you cannot rely solely on your strengths. When changing positions in the batting order, you must change your shot selection, know how to read the line and length of the ball, and adapt to the needs of the innings. This lesson may be useful for Vaibha in the future. Nevertheless, judging his potential in a new role based on just one innings would be premature.

Next time, Vaibha once again took up the opening position. This time, he played according to his natural role. He started attacking the New Zealand bowlers from the very beginning and scored 45 runs off just 19 balls. His innings included five sixes and three fours.

This innings shows how freely he plays when he is in his natural position. He is capable of putting pressure on bowlers and changing the course of the match in a few overs. In the same match, Abhishek Sharma scored 113 runs off 38 balls, and India reached the target of 199 runs in 13.2 overs.

Although Vaibha's 45-run innings might have been less discussed compared to Abhishek's century, it was extremely important for him. After setbacks at number three, he showed his potential by returning to the opening. This likely strengthened his confidence that he can influence the game with his aggressive play at the international level.

The biggest question for Vaibha was why he was not given consistent opportunities after playing an impressive innings. With Ishan Kishan's return, the team composition changed, and Vaibha found himself outside the main squad. After this, he did not get a chance to develop his game during the series.

There is already strong competition in the top order of the Indian team, with options like Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan. Therefore, it is not easy to give a place to every player in the team. However, in Vaibha's case, the question arises: what role are they preparing him for? If his strength is opening, will he get consistent chances in that position? And if the team considers him an option for the middle order, how many chances will he be given to adapt to that role?

It cannot be considered a mistake to try out a young player in different positions, but clarity in his role is also necessary. Vaibha gained experience of both types on the New Zealand tour, but could not achieve stability in either role.

Another aspect of this tour is that in five matches, Vaibha only had the opportunity to play in two. The rest of the time, he watched the team's game from the dressing room and the bench. Being with international players, their...

Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra ruled out of New Zealand squad ahead of ODI series against India due to injuries

The New Zealand team has faced an additional setback before the start of the five-match One Day International series against India, which begins on November 4th. The first match is scheduled to be played at Eden Park in Auckland.

Two key players, Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra, have been unable to fully recover from their injuries and will consequently not participate in the upcoming series. Mark Chapman sustained a left hamstring injury while playing in the European T20 Premier League. Recent MRI results indicate that he requires approximately two more weeks of rehabilitation to regain full physical fitness.

Rachin Ravindra injured his right shoulder during promotional filming. According to information from New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Ravindra is not yet ready for full action on the field in white-ball formats.

Head coach Rob Walters expressed disappointment over the absence of these players. He noted that the team management does not wish to take any risks given the upcoming test series.

Experienced batter-wicketkeeper Tim Seifert was included in the New Zealand squad for the first three ODIs. Seifert had previously been selected for the last two matches of the series. Additionally, left-handed batter Henry Nicholls was included in the starting lineup for the first three games.

All-rounder Dean Foxcroft will join the team for the final two ODIs. Former fast bowler Matthew Fisher was also named in the squad for the first three games, although he had previously only been selected for the concluding two matches. Furthermore, Matt Henry, who is recovering from a quadriceps injury, will join the team after an assessment of his physical condition, at which point a decision regarding his participation will be made.

The New Zealand squad for the first three ODIs against India includes Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Davies, Matthew Fisher, Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (wicketkeeper), Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith, Will Young, and Blair Tickner.

Ahead of the series of matches: Yashwish Kaisaval again failed to perform in the game against New Zealand

The poor form of India's opening batsman, Yashwish Kaisaval, is causing concern among the entire Indian squad ahead of the start of the test series against New Zealand. On the first day of the second unofficial test, held at Hagley Oval in Christchurch against New Zealand A, Kaisaval was once again ineffective.

His bat could not show activity in the third consecutive match, which increased the pressure on him before the upcoming test series. Constant questions arise regarding how exactly he loses his wickets.

After losing the toss, the India A team started the game very poorly. In the very first over, fast bowler Fraser Smith dismissed Yashwish Kaisaval via an out elbow-length ball (LBW). Kaisaval, who scored only 22 runs (17 and 5) in the previous two matches of the first unofficial test, either couldn't start or was dismissed for a minimal number of runs this time.

After Kaisaval came out to bat, Devadad Padhikkal tried to stabilize the innings along with Sai Sudarshan. Sudarshan looked in good form, but he fell into a trap by hitting the ball carelessly, which went outside the boundary, and was caught. Following this, Yash Rathore was also dismissed for attempting to interfere with the ball that was going outside.

Devadad Padhikkal, who demonstrated brilliant play in the first match, once again took responsibility and played a solid innings of 80 runs. Nevertheless, he could not turn this innings into a century because the ball hit his own pads while attempting a cut shot.

Immediately after this, Smaran Ravichandran made a mistake by deciding not to take the ball coming inside, and was dismissed on the very first delivery via LBW, scoring zero runs. Due to the batsmen's poor shot selection, the India A team lost its players at short intervals.

India A scored 291 runs in its first innings, losing 7 wickets in 88 overs. During this innings, Yashwish Kaisaval (0) and Smaran Ravichandran (0) could not score any runs, while Sai Sudarshan scored 41 runs, Devadad Padhikkal scored 80 runs, and Dhruv Jurel showed an impressive incomplete innings of 99 runs.

Additionally, Yash Rathore scored 13 runs, Washington Sundar scored 8 runs, Manav Sutar scored 22 runs, and Akash Dip remained on the field with 25 runs.
