Huawei has updated the Taobao Instant Commerce agent within its Celia assistant, enabling users to search for, select, and order items in any category using voice commands, according to IT Home on November 2.
Previously, this agent could only process food delivery orders, but now its functionality is expanded to include consumer electronics, flowers, fresh produce, skincare products, and other retail goods delivered directly to the user's door.
To use this feature, the latest versions of HarmonyOS and Celia are required. After the update, the user can state their need in a single sentence—for example, asking to send flowers, buy gloves for a cold-weather business trip, or select a moisturizing cream. In response, Celia contacts Taobao Instant Commerce, suggests suitable products, and directs the user to the checkout process.
Huawei notes that this update is intended to meet seasonal demand during the autumn and winter period, covering a wide range from gifts and outdoor gear to home and family goods.
The update also integrates the companion AI Celia into the purchasing process. On Huawei smartphones with a wide form factor and barometer design, the user can invoke Celia without leaving the page while watching a video and ask to purchase an item displayed on the screen. In one example, a viewer watching a video with meal recommendations can ask to reorder a dish, and Celia identifies the product, opening the corresponding product card in Taobao Instant Commerce. The user then selects the item themselves, confirms the address, and makes the payment.
According to the report, Celia is now connected to over 2000 HarmonyOS agents and more than 500 selected partner skills. The integration with Taobao Instant Commerce is one of the most direct examples of the agent-to-agent approach that Huawei is implementing in HarmonyOS, allowing the system assistant to pass the task to a third-party service agent instead of the user having to open the application manually.
This step follows other recent improvements to Celia, including proactive suggestions in over 100 applications and integration with WeChat, which allows Celia to send voice messages and make calls.
