Research library on Krishna to be established in Ujjain; plans to increase income from temple lands and develop Vrindavan villages

An ultra-modern research library dedicated to the God Krishna is planned for Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. This library will serve to preserve rare manuscripts and scientific works. Additionally, a specialized digital platform for research, documentaries, theatrical performances, and musical cycles related to Krishna is planned.

Minister Mohan Yadav chaired the meeting of the 'Shrikrishna Pathhey' working group at the ministry on Monday and issued relevant directives. He emphasized that the teachings of God Krishna continue to serve as guidance in areas such as life management, economy, agriculture, and cattle development. It was proposed to conduct regional and national seminars and conferences on these topics.

The Minister noted that God Krishna studied at the Sandipani Gurukul in Ujjain, and there are also numerous stories associated with His travels to various places in the state. He stated that all these locations hold great significance for the general public and should be developed as holy sites. He also instructed the initiation of cooperation with organizations related to Krishna devotion to develop these places.

At the meeting, the Minister focused on improving the preservation, promotion, and management of temples dedicated to God Krishna. It was indicated that the lands belonging to the temples should be used to strengthen the administrative systems of the temples themselves. To this end, instructions were given to develop an action plan that includes agricultural activities and other commercial operations on temple lands.

The Minister also suggested that a portion of the income from major temples could be directed towards improving conditions in adjacent cow sheds and Vrindavan villages. Furthermore, orders were given to carry out work under the 'Jal Ganga' campaign for the restoration and preservation of water structures located in the temples.

It was reported that directives have already been issued regarding the maintenance of over 3200 temples in the state, the construction of entrances, and the preservation of water bodies associated with Shrikrishna Pathhey. The foundation stone was also laid for the development and restoration of the Sandipani Ashram in Ujjain.

During the meeting, the progress of development projects being implemented in various parts of the state under the Shrikrishna Pathhey scheme was reviewed. These include projects in Narayan Dham Mahidpur, Shrikrishna Dham Chhatarpur, Janapav Mahu (Indore), Amjera (Dhar), Maa Jagneshwari Lok (Chanderi), Shrikrishna Radha Lok (Panna), and projects related to the Jamgarh hills in the Raisen district.

The State Culture Minister Dharmedhra Bhavsing Lodhi participated virtually in the meeting. Present were Chief Secretary Ashok Barnwal, Additional Chief Secretary Niraj Mandloi, Shivshekar Shukla, Anupam Rajan, Minister's Advisor on Culture Shriram Tiwari, and other officials.

Kartik Amavasya 2026 History: How Maternal Love Overcame the Attempt to Bind God

Kartik Amavasya 2026 is associated with the celebration of Diwali, which in the Treta Yuga is linked to the return of Lord Shri Rama to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile. In the Dwapara Yuga, this festival has a special connection to the Lila of Yashoda-Damodara, when Lord Krishna, who embodies the entire universe, was captured by the love and tenderness of Mother Yashoda while being tied up in a pot.

Despite the ropes used to try and bind God being too short, His play demonstrated a new meaning in the face of maternal love and selflessness. In memory of this divine event, the tradition of worshipping Yashoda-Damodara and offering lamps is observed daily in the month of Kartik.

The month of Kartik is a special time for remembering devotion to Lord Krishna, the love of Radha Rani, and the Lila of Damodara. In temples during this month, the Lord is worshipped in the form of Damodara. Devotees offer their devotion to God by lighting lamps. The practice of lamp offering and singing Harinama Sankirtana during this period teaches the devotee the feeling of love, devotion, and closeness to God.

According to the description of the Damodara Lila in the Srimad Bhagavatam, Mother Yashoda tried to tie Balakrishna due to his mischief. No matter what ropes she tried to use, each one was two inches too short. Eventually, seeing the Mother's fatigue, tender affection, and sincere efforts, the Lord Himself agreed to be bound. It is because of this event that the Lord was given the name Damodara. The word 'Dam' means rope, and 'Udar' means belly. The message of this Lila is that God can be attained not only through force or spiritual practices but also through pure love and devotion.

Numerous Lilas of Lord Krishna are remembered in the month of Kartik. Within traditions related to the cattle fair of Gopashtami, the cow is revered. During Govardhan Puja, the Lila of Giriraj's support is remembered, when the Lord lifted the Govardhan hill to protect the residents of Braj. Similarly, the subjugation of Indra's pride, the destruction of the serpent Kaliya, and the Lila of Maharas in Braj also hold a special place in the tradition of Krishna Bhakti. Although the birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated in the month of Bhadrapada, His naming occurred in the month of Kartik, and the childhood Lilas hold particular significance in Kartik.
