Rishabh Pant fails fitness test before New Zealand test series

The renowned wicket-keeper and batsman of the Indian team, Rishabh Pant, faced a significant setback ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand. He was unable to demonstrate his physical condition in the initial fitness test conducted at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) under the BCCI in Bangalore.

Nevertheless, the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India plans to give Rishabh Pant another opportunity to prove his readiness. Previously, Pant had been struggling with a side strain during the Iran Cup held in early October.

Following that, he was undergoing rehabilitation in Bangalore starting October 23. The good news is that he has resumed batting and wicket-keeping practice sessions at the training grounds. However, he failed the initial fitness test.

The BCCI medical team will conduct a retest over the next two days. Only after successfully passing this test will he be permitted to travel for the tour to New Zealand; otherwise, he will be dropped from the squad.

The selection committee initially included Rishabh Pant in the squad for the matches in New Zealand and for the India-A team, contingent upon him passing the fitness tests. Due to preparation delays, he was excluded from the first four-day matches, with Dhruv Jurel taking over the wicket-keeping duties.

If Pant successfully passes the next test, he will be able to participate in the third four-day match of the India-A team against New Zealand-A, scheduled for November 7 in Lincoln. This match will be his best chance to regain rhythm before the start of the Test series on November 19 in Wellington.

When asked by head coach Gautam Gambhir about Rishabh Pant's condition and availability during the press conference following the 3-2 T20 series victory against New Zealand, he stated that he did not have updated information regarding Pant's medical clearance at the moment. He added that as soon as official information from the BCCI becomes available, it will be published in the media.

Captain Shreyas Iyer passes trophy to young player after series victory against New Zealand

The Indian team won the five-match T20 series against New Zealand with a score of 3-2. Although the Indian team lost the fifth and final match, which took place at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday (November 1st), the celebration of the victory took an unusual turn.

During the trophy presentation ceremony after the match, India's captain Shreyas Iyer accepted the trophy but then passed it to the young all-rounder Naman Dheer. Following this, the entire team took joint photographs with the trophy, and Iyer's gesture caused a wide resonance.

The 26-year-old Naman Dheer effectively utilized the opportunities given to him in this series. This all-rounder from Mumbai Indians (MI) made a significant contribution to India's game by batting in the lower order. He became the second-highest run-scorer for the Indian team in this T20 series.

Although Naman Dheer did not get many opportunities to play as a bowler, his batting successes attracted the attention of the team management. He managed to demonstrate his usefulness even with experienced players like Shivam Dube present.

This approach by Shreyas Iyer recalls the traditions established by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill. These captains previously allowed young players the opportunity to celebrate the victory with the trophy. It should be noted that Dhoni was the one who started the tradition of passing the trophy to young players, and subsequent Indian captains continued this practice.

India already gained an undeniable advantage in the series. Despite New Zealand managing to achieve their goal in the fifth match by stopping India at 191/8, they could not win the series, and this moment became unforgettable for Naman Dheer during India's victory celebration.

KL Rahul dismissed hit wicket for India-A in New Zealand tour

KL Rahul's performance for India-A during the New Zealand tour was disappointing. The experienced batsman failed to score any runs in the first innings and was dismissed in an unusual manner after scoring just four runs in the second innings. While attempting to play a shot against a delivery bowled by Fraser Sheet, Rahul's bat struck the stumps himself, resulting in him being given out hit wicket and returning to the pavilion.

India-A's first innings at the Oval concluded at 113 runs, led by Bert Sutcliffe. In response, New Zealand A amassed 317 runs, securing a significant lead of 204 runs. India-A required strong batting in the second innings to recover, but Rahul was dismissed early.

In the second innings, Rahul scored four runs off 15 balls. He attempted to play a shot against a ball from Fraser Sheet outside the off stump, but the ball grazed the edge of his bat and returned towards him. Rahul extended his bat to prevent the ball from reaching the stumps, but in this attempt, his bat struck the off stump.

Replay footage made it clear that the ball was not supposed to hit the stumps directly. Rahul was given out hit wicket because his bat dislodged the wicket. Thus, Sheet dismissed him for the second time in the match. In the first innings, Rahul was dismissed without scoring off eight balls. At that time, he tried to drive a ball going outside the off stump, and the edge went to wicketkeeper Mitchell Hey who took the catch.

Rahul's failure in both innings increased the difficulties for India-A. After limiting the team to only 113 runs in the first innings, New Zealand-A had built a strong lead, putting considerable pressure on the Indian batsmen in the second innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal also could not contribute much in India-A's second innings. Yashasvi was dismissed for 5 runs by Simon Keen. The next day, India-A added 106 runs in their second innings, losing 2 wickets. Devdutt Padikkal is unbeaten with 56 runs, and Sai Sudharsan has scored 39 runs.

India A lost to New Zealand A by a score of 113:135 in the first unofficial test match

The India A team suffered a defeat against New Zealand A in the first unofficial test match, where they managed to score only 113 runs in the first half of the game. Among the players who failed to score any runs were K.L. Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, and Washington Sundar; five batsmen remained scoreless.

The situation was complicated by the fact that Simon Keen helped New Zealand A completely break down the Indian attack, taking five wickets. Furthermore, Jack Gibson also made a significant contribution to the defeat of the India A team, securing three wickets. The match between India A and New Zealand A took place as part of a three-match unofficial Test series, starting on October 24th at Bert Sachliff Oval in Lincoln.

Simon Keen, who took five wickets, scoring 24 runs off 11.3 overs with four maidens, had previously not played in any international matches for New Zealand. This all-rounder, aged 29, has a record of 1487 runs and 70 wickets in 31 first-class matches, as well as 361 runs and 32 wickets in 25 List A matches. In 10 T20 matches, he scored 214 runs and took 5 wickets. Keen has played for Auckland, New Zealand A, and New Zealand U19.

Jack Gibson, also a 29-year-old all-rounder, lacks international experience for the New Zealand national team, similar to Keen. He took 3 wickets, scoring 29 runs off 10 overs. Before this match, Gibson had performed in 25 first-class matches, scoring 299 runs and taking 58 wickets. In 38 List A matches, he took 40 wickets and scored 60 runs, and in 23 T20 matches, he has 18 wickets and 18 runs.

New Zealand A decided to start the game with a toss, choosing bowling first. Fraser Shit provided an early success for the team, dismissing K.L. Rahul (0 runs). Yashasvi Jaiswal (17 runs) and Devdutt Padikkal (32 runs) held up the innings for some time, but Jack Gibson ended this partnership by dismissing Yashasvi.

After this, Simon Keen began dismantling the India A attack. Despite the consecutive fall of batsmen, Yashas Rathore managed to stabilize the game. He brought the team's score past 100 runs. Rathore batted without being dismissed, scoring 44 runs off 49 balls, including three sixes and three fours.

Yashas Rathore's attempt to take India A to a respectable score proved insufficient. The first half of India A's innings concluded before two sessions were completed. In the first innings, India A failed to score any runs from K.L. Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Choudhary, and Akash Dip. Captain Dhruv Jurel could only score 1 run.

The India A squad included: Yashasvi Jaiswal, K.L. Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Sai Sudarshan, Dhruv Jurel (captain/vice-captain), Yashas Rathore, Washington Sundar, Anshul Kamboj, Akib Nabi, Akash Dip, Mukesh Choudhary. The New Zealand A squad consisted of: Rhys Marius (captain), Curtis Hifi, Tim Robinson, Matthew Boyle, Dan Foxcroft, Mitchell Hey (vice-captain), Simon Keen, Christian Clark, Fraser Shit, Jayden Lennox, Jack Gibson.
