Celebrities from Mzansi celebrated Halloween this year by moving away from their usual glamorous style in favor of creative costumes, references to nostalgic TV characters, and recreations of iconic pop culture moments.
Local stars demonstrated their understanding of the theme; for instance, Anelle Zondo and L-Tido recreated Kanye West's cult music video, while Uncle Waffles paid tribute to South African figures.
Rapper and actress Anelle Zondo shared two Halloween photoshoots, one of which was done with her boyfriend, rapper L-Tido. The couple reproduced the memorable music video of Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, from the song 'Bound 2,' which featured the rapper and his then-wife Kim Kardashian.
Zondo and L-Tido officially confirmed their relationship in mid-2026 after several months of rumors about their romance. For her second look, the 'hitmaker' Ingwe performed solo, transforming into Raven Baxter, a beloved character from the popular Disney Channel sitcom 'That's So Raven,' played by Raven-Symoné.
Actress and digital content creator Linda Mtoba chose a different approach to the holiday, portraying the Grinch. The actress adopted green for the occasion, completing the transformation with a white fur coat and a huge white hat. Her festive embodiment of the cult character from Dr. Seuss' works added playfulness to this year's Halloween celebrations.
Internationally recognized DJ and music producer Uncle Waffles did not limit herself to one costume. Her first look was dedicated to paying tribute to South African dancer and Gqom genre figure Mzamo Mgixa Mgilane, as the DJ recreated one of his popular interviews. Mgilane, hailing from KwaMashu, north of Durban, gained popularity through his energetic dance style and vibrant personality.
In her second look, Uncle Waffles teamed up with host and rapper Nomuzi 'Muzli' Mabena to recreate an old interview with Constanze Glamazon. The DJ paid close attention to the outfit details, even managing to find the exact pair of jeans that Glamazon wore in the original interview.
Rapper and businesswoman Nadia Nakai opted for the Hollywood version, dressing up as Pamela Anderson from her iconic 'Baywatch' era. Anderson became a cultural reference in fashion due to her role as lifeguard C.J. Parker in the popular TV series, making this look a recognizable choice for Halloween.
DJ Dbn Gogo, who is not averse to celebrating Halloween, incorporated nostalgic references from the entertainment industry into her costume choices. The DJ recreated the famous scene between Angela and Marcus from Tyler Perry's series 'Why Did I Get Married?', taking on the role of Angela. She then changed her look, transforming into Tau Mogale, a cult character from the South African soap opera 'Generations,' and recreated a scene from this popular series.
TV and radio host Somizi Mhlongo also participated in the Halloween fun, paying tribute to one of South Africa's biggest hitmakers. He dressed up as Master KG, complementing the look with the musician's signature bandana style.
From international pop culture references to distinctly South African television and entertainment moments, the celebrities' costumes this year offered a wealth of nostalgia, humor, and creativity.
