Uzbekistan and Turkey have signed an agreement on the mutual recognition of work experience for citizens who have worked in both countries when applying for pensions. This new procedure will come into force after the document enters into effect.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the agreement was signed in Ankara following a meeting between the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on October 29. The document was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov and the Minister of Labor and Social Security of Turkey Vedat Işıkhan.
According to information from the Turkish Ministry, once the bilateral agreement comes into force, periods of employment for citizens who have worked in Uzbekistan and Turkey can be combined for accounting purposes. Furthermore, the document aims to provide mutual protection of citizens' rights to social security and prevent double insurance in the same country simultaneously.
For example, the work history of a citizen who first worked for several years in Uzbekistan and then in Turkey can be jointly accounted for when determining pension entitlement.
Currently, the date of entry into force of the agreement has not been announced. Therefore, the signing of the document does not mean that the procedure for combining experience in both countries has already begun to apply. It should be recalled that negotiations between Uzbekistan and Turkey on pension provision began at the end of March, and in June, the parties fully agreed on the draft agreements and administrative arrangements for its implementation.
