Plans to expand the BRT bus lane network on four new streets in Tashkent

The city of Tashkent plans to create additional sections of dedicated lanes for public transport buses (BRT) on four streets. These works will cover Mukimi Street, Karatash – Kukcha-Darvoza, Parkent, and Mirzo Ulugbek Avenue. The total length of the new BRT lines will be approximately 18 kilometers.

The decision to establish these routes was made by the capital's hokim, Shavkat Umurzakov, on October 29, 2026. The longest section, measuring 6.3 kilometers, will be implemented on Mirzo Ulugbek Avenue in the relevant district.

On Mukimi Street, which runs through the Yakkasaray and Chilanzar districts, the dedicated lane will stretch for 4.6 kilometers. Additionally, another 4.2 kilometers of BRT will appear on Karatash and Kukcha-Darvoza Streets in the Shayxantahur district. A separate section of 2.8 kilometers will be allocated on Parkent Street in the Mirzo-Ulugbek district.

The project's client is Toshkent Invest, which is responsible for developing projects and selecting contractors. Initially, 6.5 billion soums have been allocated from the Tashkent Development Fund to prepare project documentation and cover related expenses. Additional project funding will come from commercial bank loans and funds from urban road and transport infrastructure development funds.

Before road surface repairs begin, utility services are required to bring engineering networks into compliance and relocate them if necessary. Authorities have also instructed that the process be organized to avoid traffic collapse and ensure safety, including limiting vehicular traffic on certain sections.

It should be noted that it was previously planned to create dedicated BRT lanes for public transport on Shahrisabz, Amir Temur, and Yangi Sergeli Streets, which is scheduled for late November and early December 2026.

Deadlines set in Tashkent for completion of new lanes for high-speed public transport construction

The project to create dedicated lanes for public transport (BRT) on Shahrisabz, Amir Temur, and Yangi Sergeli streets continues in Tashkent. It is planned that all work will be completed by the end of November or the first decade of December 2026. The total length of the new sections will exceed five kilometers.

Work is underway on Shahrisabz street between Amir Temur Avenue and Makhtumkuli Street, where a one-kilometer section is being developed. Completion of construction work on this section is scheduled for December 1.

On Amir Temur Avenue, dedicated lanes are being built on the section from Yunusabad metro station to Bogishamol Street. This section, with a total length of 2.73 kilometers, is divided into two stages. The first stage, which is 1.43 kilometers long, is planned to be finished by December 10, and the second stage, 1.3 kilometers long, is also scheduled for completion by the same date.

Work on Yangi Sergeli Street is taking place on the section from the intersection with Shota Rustaveli Street to the interchange towards Sergeliuly. Here, a road surface of 1.36 kilometers is being renovated, and the deadline for this stage is set for November 30.

Drivers are advised to take into account possible traffic restrictions and strictly observe posted road signs during the repair works. Previously, a new BRT section about one kilometer long was commissioned in Tashkent, bringing the total length of the dedicated line on Shota Rustaveli and Shahrisabz streets to nearly eight kilometers.

BRT line construction has begun in Tashkent on Amir Temur and Yangi Sergeli streets

The construction of two more segments of the dedicated BRT bus line has started in the city of Tashkent—on Amir Temur Avenue and Yangi Sergeli Street.

Construction work is being carried out in the central part of the roadway, while traffic movement in both directions is maintained on the remaining lanes.

The Center for Traffic Management has appealed to drivers to take into account possible difficulties in movement and, if possible, use alternative routes.

The first phase of work covers a section of Amir Temur Avenue measuring 1.4 km (from the intersection with Ahmad Donish Street to Shahristan Street) and 1.4 km of Yangi Sergeli Street (from the intersection with Choshtepa Street to the SOUEAST service center).

Currently, the construction of the BRT line on Shahrisabz Street is ongoing. After combining all planned sections on the mentioned streets, a single route will be formed, passing through Yangi Sergeli, Shota Rustaveli, Shahrisabz, and Amir Temur.

Previously, the capital's hokimiyat had informed about plans to also include Mukimi Street, Karatash Street, and Kukcha Darvoza Street, as well as Parkent and Mirza Ulugbek Avenue, in the BRT system.

New section of BRT rapid bus line commissioned in Tashkent

An additional segment of the dedicated lane for rapid bus transport (BRT) has been commissioned in the city of Tashkent, spanning approximately one kilometer.

Thanks to this new section, the total continuous rapid bus route on Shota Rustaveli and Shahrisabz streets has reached nearly eight kilometers. According to information provided by the Road Traffic Organization Center, this new segment runs along Shahrisabz street, starting from the intersection with Amir Temur Avenue and ending at Makhtumkuli Street.

The location of this section is between the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and City Maternity Complex No. 6. These dedicated lanes occupy the central part of the roadway, allowing buses to move separately from the general traffic flow.

The introduction of BRT is expected to reduce waiting time in traffic jams, increase movement stability, and improve the predictability of journey duration.

City authorities plan to create a unified transport corridor connecting the Sergelyi and Yunusabad districts. Information about further sections and potential traffic adjustments will be provided by the city later.

It should be noted that the previous construction of the BRT on Shahrisabz street led to temporary changes in the routes of five buses: No. 2, 26, 37, 68, and 93, for which detours were organized along neighboring streets.
