In Bihar, residents demonstrated an unusual form of protest against the poor condition of roads: they began naming potholes after local politicians. This action caused a wide resonance both in the region and on social media.
The problem of dilapidated road surfaces, where potholes remain unnoticed and are not repaired for a long time, causes significant difficulties for the population. In Bagausrai, residents used a creative approach by assigning names to the potholes of Member of Parliament Giriraj Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) deputy Kundan Kumar.
This incident took place in the village of Parra, which is part of the Birpur block in the Bagausrai district. Residents, dissatisfied with the terrible condition of the Parra-Saraunja road, organized a unique way to express their discontent. They prepared posters with photos of MP Giriraj Singh and Deputy Kundan Kumar, on which names such as 'Giriraj Kund' and 'Kundan Kund' were written. Then, people went to the potholes on the road and began marking them with these names.
Video recordings show young people approaching various potholes with these posters. During this action, residents expressed their indignation over the low quality of the road and demanded urgent repairs. The message from the residents was clear: if the road problem is not resolved in a timely manner, they have to resort to such methods to attract the attention of responsible political figures.
Residents warned that if the road is not repaired soon, they will begin mass protests.
Local residents claim that the condition of the Parra-Saraunja road has been deteriorating for many decades. Although construction of a section of the road was carried out in the past, its condition began to deteriorate again over time. Residents accuse Kundan Kumar of taking no concrete steps to repair the road in the last six years since he became a deputy in 2020. However, representatives of the relevant political forces or departments have not yet given an official response to these accusations.
Numerous large potholes have formed on the road, creating problems for everyone who uses transport—motorcyclists, rickshaws, cars, and automobiles. The situation worsens during the rains. When potholes fill with water, it becomes difficult to assess their depth, which increases the risk of accidents.
Residents note that Parra village is considered a model settlement, but the condition of its roads calls into question claims of development. The residents' dissatisfaction is also linked to the fact that the road problem does not find a permanent solution. In the opinion of the townspeople, naming potholes after politicians is a symbolic protest. Through this method, they aim to make their problem public to attract the attention of relevant officials and politicians.
Currently, the video of the pothole marking has become a subject of discussion on social media. It remains an open question whether any specific steps will be taken to repair the Parra-Saraunja road after such an unusual protest, or if residents will continue to face the poor condition of the road surface.
