Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra ruled out of New Zealand squad ahead of ODI series against India due to injuries

The New Zealand team has faced an additional setback before the start of the five-match One Day International series against India, which begins on November 4th. The first match is scheduled to be played at Eden Park in Auckland.

Two key players, Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra, have been unable to fully recover from their injuries and will consequently not participate in the upcoming series. Mark Chapman sustained a left hamstring injury while playing in the European T20 Premier League. Recent MRI results indicate that he requires approximately two more weeks of rehabilitation to regain full physical fitness.

Rachin Ravindra injured his right shoulder during promotional filming. According to information from New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Ravindra is not yet ready for full action on the field in white-ball formats.

Head coach Rob Walters expressed disappointment over the absence of these players. He noted that the team management does not wish to take any risks given the upcoming test series.

Experienced batter-wicketkeeper Tim Seifert was included in the New Zealand squad for the first three ODIs. Seifert had previously been selected for the last two matches of the series. Additionally, left-handed batter Henry Nicholls was included in the starting lineup for the first three games.

All-rounder Dean Foxcroft will join the team for the final two ODIs. Former fast bowler Matthew Fisher was also named in the squad for the first three games, although he had previously only been selected for the concluding two matches. Furthermore, Matt Henry, who is recovering from a quadriceps injury, will join the team after an assessment of his physical condition, at which point a decision regarding his participation will be made.

The New Zealand squad for the first three ODIs against India includes Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Davies, Matthew Fisher, Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (wicketkeeper), Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith, Will Young, and Blair Tickner.

The squad for the final two ODIs against India includes Mitchell Santner (captain), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Christian Clark, Jacob Davies, Matthew Fisher, Dean Foxcroft, Loki Ferguson, Mitchell Hayes (wicketkeeper), Nick Kelly, Tim Seifert (wicketkeeper), Blair Tickner, and Will Young.

After defeat in Hamilton T20, captain Shreyas Iyer admitted Indian team's mistakes

After the Indian team lost the T20 match against New Zealand in Hamilton on Sunday (November 1), Indian captain Shreyas Iyer acknowledged his team's shortcomings. He noted that the team failed to capitalize on a favorable start. Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner stated that although the series ultimately ended with an Indian victory by 3-2, the outcome could have been different in favor of his team.

Shreyas Iyer emphasized after the game that the Indian team could have performed better given their start. Although the partnership with Ishan Kishan allowed the team to regain momentum, the subsequent fall of several players created sudden pressure on the new batsmen.

According to Shreyas, playing on that pitch was difficult. The ball sometimes came with spin, sometimes stopped on the track, and at other times flew fast. He mentioned that he and Tilak Varma were dismissed in a similar manner. Playing against a ball bowled long distance presented a serious challenge for the batsmen. Despite this, scoring 194 runs was, in his opinion, an acceptable result.

The Indian captain also admitted that the team could improve its fielding and bowling. He noted that the players looked somewhat sluggish in defense. Shreyas added that playing in different conditions and on various grounds in New Zealand provided a good learning opportunity for the team.

Shreyas mentioned that after gaining a 3-0 lead in the series, the team wanted to conduct experiments and challenge themselves in the last two matches. He said that the first three games gave the team rhythm. However, in the last two matches, the team did not meet expectations while trying to implement new approaches.

The Indian captain stated that he does not want to dwell too much on the T20 team's condition as they are now set to play ODI matches. Nevertheless, he agreed that the team atmosphere is good, and facing various difficulties in foreign conditions is necessary experience for the players.

Shreyas particularly highlighted the need to improve fielding. He noted that such conditions, where the sky is clear despite the darkness and the lighting has a specific effect, are not usually encountered in India. Playing in such an environment also became a learning experience for the team.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner expressed satisfaction with his team's performance in the series. He called the series very intense. In his view, there were small chances in the first two matches that New Zealand could have capitalized on. He suggested that if the team had won at those moments, the series outcome could have been completely different.

Santner positively assessed the team's play in both attack and defense. He noted that his bowlers adapted well to the conditions in the last two matches. The bowlers demonstrated variety in their deliveries, using wide yorkers, straight yorkers, and correct length. This was a valuable lesson for them. Santner added that the next chance to play in similar conditions would likely be available at the World Cup in a few years.

The New Zealand captain also expressed delight over the depth of the squad. He said that due to the tight schedule, significant changes had to be made to the squad, which gave opportunities for players who do not always have regular playing time to showcase themselves. These players seized the opportunity and showed they could immediately take responsibility.

Santner also highly praised Glenn Phillips's play, noting that he performs well in every match. He observed that Phillips initially takes some time before scoring, playing in his style, and his play plays an important role in getting the team into a good position.

Ahead of the series of matches: Yashwish Kaisaval again failed to perform in the game against New Zealand

The poor form of India's opening batsman, Yashwish Kaisaval, is causing concern among the entire Indian squad ahead of the start of the test series against New Zealand. On the first day of the second unofficial test, held at Hagley Oval in Christchurch against New Zealand A, Kaisaval was once again ineffective.

His bat could not show activity in the third consecutive match, which increased the pressure on him before the upcoming test series. Constant questions arise regarding how exactly he loses his wickets.

After losing the toss, the India A team started the game very poorly. In the very first over, fast bowler Fraser Smith dismissed Yashwish Kaisaval via an out elbow-length ball (LBW). Kaisaval, who scored only 22 runs (17 and 5) in the previous two matches of the first unofficial test, either couldn't start or was dismissed for a minimal number of runs this time.

After Kaisaval came out to bat, Devadad Padhikkal tried to stabilize the innings along with Sai Sudarshan. Sudarshan looked in good form, but he fell into a trap by hitting the ball carelessly, which went outside the boundary, and was caught. Following this, Yash Rathore was also dismissed for attempting to interfere with the ball that was going outside.

Devadad Padhikkal, who demonstrated brilliant play in the first match, once again took responsibility and played a solid innings of 80 runs. Nevertheless, he could not turn this innings into a century because the ball hit his own pads while attempting a cut shot.

Immediately after this, Smaran Ravichandran made a mistake by deciding not to take the ball coming inside, and was dismissed on the very first delivery via LBW, scoring zero runs. Due to the batsmen's poor shot selection, the India A team lost its players at short intervals.

India A scored 291 runs in its first innings, losing 7 wickets in 88 overs. During this innings, Yashwish Kaisaval (0) and Smaran Ravichandran (0) could not score any runs, while Sai Sudarshan scored 41 runs, Devadad Padhikkal scored 80 runs, and Dhruv Jurel showed an impressive incomplete innings of 99 runs.

Additionally, Yash Rathore scored 13 runs, Washington Sundar scored 8 runs, Manav Sutar scored 22 runs, and Akash Dip remained on the field with 25 runs.

India's T20 squad for the Auckland match: Two options for Gaththam Gurvir's decision

The fourth match of the five-game T20 tournament between India and New Zealand will take place at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday, October 30th. This match is scheduled for 12:30 Indian time. The Indian team, which has already secured three consecutive victories, faces a significant question regarding the composition of its starting lineup.

Significant attention is being paid to Ishan Kishan, who has been absent from the last two matches due to injury. Furthermore, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has created a new scenario for player selection before head coach Gaththam Gurvir, thanks to his performance in the squad.

Ishan Kishan sustained a minor right leg muscle injury during the first T20 and was unable to participate in the second and third matches. The situation regarding his inclusion in the fourth match remains uncertain. Since India has already won the series, the team management may choose not to rush his return.

In Ishan Kishan's absence, Vaibhav Suryavanshi had the opportunity to perform and utilized it brilliantly. In the third T20, Vaibhav scored 45 runs off just 19 balls. His partnership with Abhishek Sharma yielded 118 runs for the team in the powerplay, setting a record for the highest score in the first six overs of a men's T20 International.

Abhishek Sharma also demonstrated explosive batting, scoring 113 runs off 38 balls, which led him to reclaim the top spot in the ICC T20 International player rankings. Their aggressive start put the Indian team in a strong position, making the decision about breaking up this pair in the fourth match difficult.

If Ishan Kishan makes a full recovery and is available, the team management will face the question of including him in the starting XI. If Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma are retained, Ishan could be considered for a middle-order role. This might lead to discussions about replacing Naman Dir, who plays at number six, although the final decision will depend on the overall team composition. Another option is to rest Ishan for the fourth match and bring him in for the final match of the series. When dealing with an injury, prioritizing the fitness of the recovering batter should be the main focus.

The fourth match also provides an opportunity to give a chance to players who have not yet made the starting lineup. Mystic spinner Varun Chakravarty, who returned to the team after recovering from a side strain, has not yet played, as has chinaman Kuldeep Yadav, who remained on the bench. There is hope that the Indian team might give Varun a chance in this match. Consequently, fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar is likely to be rested.

Projected Indian starting XI for the fourth T20: Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Shreyas Iyer (captain), Tilak Verma, Naman Dir, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarty, Arshdeep Singh, and Prince Yadav. Projected New Zealand starting XI for the fourth T20: Tim Seifert (wicketkeeper), Finn Allen, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Bevan Jackson, Michael Breshaw, Mitchell Santner (captain), Jacari Fallas, Adam Milne, Jacob Duffy, and Matt Fisher.
