Viajala reveals the most sought-after international destinations by Brazilians at the end of 2026

With the end of the year approaching, Brazilian citizens have begun searching for possible international destinations to enjoy the last months of 2026, a period that includes various festivities and holidays, ideal for both individual and family trips.

A study conducted by the search engine Viajala analyzed the profile of the locations topping the wish list of potential tourists during the last quarter of the year, comparing it with data collected in the same period of 2025. In total, approximately 300,000 round-trip searches destined for the final three months of the year were registered, conducted between July and September.

Lisbon assumed the position of the main destination in Brazilian searches for international travel at the end of the year. The Portuguese capital also stood out as the only location in the top five that maintained practically stable prices; average tickets cost R$ 4,763, with little variation compared to the R$ 4,684 recorded in 2025.

Buenos Aires occupied the second place in popularity, presenting a distinct scenario: during the search period, a round-trip trip to the Argentine capital had an average cost of R$ 2,333, representing a 27.5% increase compared to the value found in the last quarter of the previous year.

Next, Brazilians showed strong interest in Orlando, whose average cost was R$ 5,036, indicating a 15.5% increase compared to the previous year. Santiago, Chile, was also highly sought after, with an average price of R$ 2,316 for round trip, corresponding to a 13.5% increase over what was observed last year. Finally, Madrid closed the list, with the average price for round-trip flights to the Spanish capital reaching R$ 5,729, a 40% growth when compared to 2025.

In addition to the most coveted locations, Viajala released a ranking of the most searched airlines during this period. Latam led this ranking, registering an 8.2% decrease in the average ticket price. The Portuguese airline TAP came in second, showing a 12.9% drop in the average price, while Gol maintained its stable values.

Manaus records the most polluted air in Brazil; inland cities of Amazonas also show critical indices

The air in the capital Manaus was classified as the most polluted in Brazil this Wednesday, the 28th. Data obtained through real-time monitoring on the global platform IQAir placed the Amazonian capital at the top of the national ranking for poor air quality, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 148, a level considered harmful to sensitive groups.

According to the monitoring, the concentration of pollutants in the city reached 54.8 µg/m³. This atmospheric contamination poses a serious environmental and public health alert, affecting residents of the capital and various riverside localities in the state's interior.

Additionally, the Environmental Surveillance Electronic System (Selva), belonging to the State University of Amazonas (UEA), also signaled a deterioration in air quality. Around 6:20 AM, monitored points in the capital showed indices classified as 'poor' and 'very poor,' with particle concentration reaching 81.8 µg/m³ in one of these locations, in the Morro da Liberdade neighborhood.

For reference, Selva considers air quality good when particle concentration remains between 0 and 25 µg/m³. Above this limit, indicators are categorized on scales ranging from moderate to very bad, depending on the system used.

Inland cities record pollution

Air degradation is not limited to the capital, severely affecting other municipalities in Amazonas. Real Selva stations reported high levels of harmful particles spread throughout the state's interior:

  • Iranduba: Showed a concentration of 106.5 µg/m³, placing it among the most severe conditions in the state.
  • Maués: Registered 88.4 µg/m³ of fine suspended particles in the air.
  • Itacoatiara: Reached 73.4 µg/m³, maintaining its air quality classified between 'poor' and 'very poor.'
  • Urucurituba: Pointed to 60.2 µg/m³, which also demonstrates a strong compromise of breathable levels.

Fires in Pará may carry smoke to Amazonas

In a statement made on Monday, the 26th, the governor of Amazonas, Roberto Cidade, warned that the fires occurring in southern Pará have the potential to transport smoke to the state in the coming hours. He informed that the fire hotspots are mainly concentrated in the area of Itaituba, located near the border between the two states.

During a press conference, Cidade mentioned that the government of Amazonas plans to establish contact with the government of Pará to discuss strategies for containing the fires. The governor emphasized that, although the arrival of smoke is not immediate, it could reach Amazonas within two to three days.

He stated: 'A large part of where the fires are happening is in southern Pará, it is there in Itaituba, on the border with our state, there in Lower Amazonas. We are already working so that we can do our part here in our state, but I will also ask with our team to contact the government of Pará.'

São Luís receives first regular flight from Lisbon, opening air route between Maranhão and Europe

The Marechal Ângelo da Cunha Machado International Airport in São Luís (Maranhão state) has received its first regular flight from Lisbon, marking the opening of a new air route between the state of Maranhão and Europe.

This new air service will operate twice a week. It will allow passengers to fly from São Luís to the capital of Portugal, as well as provide opportunities for connecting flights to other European cities and international destinations.

According to the airline, the flights will be operated on Airbus A321LR aircraft, designed for 171 passengers: 16 in business class and 155 in economy class.

Departures from Lisbon are scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays, with arrival in São Luís early the next morning. Flights from the capital of Maranhão will depart on Tuesdays and Fridays, with a mandatory stop in Fortaleza before further travel to Portugal.

New route may stimulate tourism in Maranhão

It is expected that this air connection will facilitate the arrival of foreign tourists in the state of Maranhão, especially in Lençóis Maranhenses, which is one of the region's main tourist attractions. Furthermore, the new route is capable of expanding international travel opportunities for residents of Maranhão.

It is planned that starting in March 2027, the frequency of flights between Lisbon and São Luís will increase from two to three weekly flights.
