Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 becomes the highest-grossing film in Tamil cinema, breaking a record

Tamil cinema star Rajinikanth continues to captivate audiences with his style and charisma. His new film 'Jailer 2' has received high praise from viewers and continues to be shown in theaters. This film was released worldwide on October 15 and set a new record in Tamil cinema in just 17 days.

Thanks to 'Jailer 2', Rajinikanth surpassed his previous record, set eight years ago, making the film the most profitable in Tamil cinema. According to Sakencilk, 'Jailer 2' earned 790.85 crore rupees globally in 17 days, with expectations that this amount will exceed 800 crore by the 18th day.

Previously, this record belonged to the film '2.0', released in 2018, whose total collection was estimated to be in the range of 699–800 crore rupees. Rajinikanth surpassed this mark faster, creating a historic moment at the box office and demonstrating his popularity even at 75 years old.

'Jailer 2' outperformed several major Indian films, including 'Dhurandhar 2', 'Baahubali 2', 'KGF Chapter 2', and 'Pushpa 2'. This film became the first Indian movie to collect over 75 crore rupees in four major South Indian markets: Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala.

It is important to note that other films that collected more money both in India and globally failed to achieve such uniform success in these four states. Although 'Dhurandhar 2' was the highest-grossing Indian film in 2026, 'Jailer 2' set a completely different record.

Rajinikanth had the opportunity to achieve a major success even before the release of 'Ramayana', but he did not miss this chance. Since there were no other strong films available at the time of 'Jailer 2''s release, the film gained a significant advantage at the box office. However, the pace of 'Jailer 2' may slow down after the release of 'Ramayana'.

Actor Rana Daggubati will also participate in this new horror project, which he personally announced.

During the HorrorCon India 2026 event in Delhi, actor Rana Daggubati made an unexpected announcement about his upcoming film. He stated that he intends to produce a horror film titled 'Scary Picture'. The Telugu filmmaker and actor Ravi Babu will direct this project. Kangana Ranaut will be starring in this movie, information she also shared on her Instagram account on Sunday.

A video from the event, where Rana Daggubati announced his next film on stage, was circulated by event users on social media. A preliminary look at the film shown on screen suggests that the movie will be shot in Hindi, judging by the title.

Despite this, no official announcement about the film has been made by Rana's production house yet. However, Kangana reposted the video where Rana made this announcement on Instagram.

At the event, Rana commented on the film, clarifying that it is a horror film. He noted that the director is Ravi Babu, his friend, who has created many horror films in Telugu. Rajanikanth's film 'Jailer 2' surpassed 600 crore, but the pace has slowed; the influence of Ayushmann

The film 'Jailer 2' by Indian superstar Rajnikanth has achieved record collections, earning over 600 crore in just eight days. This success confirms Rajnikanth's status as a star, and the movie is the fourth major release in his career. However, starting from the second week of its run, the collection pace began to slow down.

According to a report by Sakencode, in the second weekly period, 'Jailer 2' showed a significantly slower start compared to the first week. On Thursday, the eighth day of release, the film collected 17.15 crore in net collections, of which 2.40 crore was from Hindi screenings. The total net collection over eight days amounted to 334.35 crore.

Internationally, the film achieved impressive results. In foreign countries, it brought in 214.50 crore in gross revenue over eight days. Globally, 'Jailer 2' earned 606.50 crore, marking the fastest achievement in Rajnikanth's career club of films with a turnover of 600 crore.

'Jailer 2' received a limited Hindi release. Due to the insufficient number of screenings in Delhi-NCR, the film performed weakly in this language. Analysts suggest that if the film had had the same number of screenings in Hindi as it did in Tamil, its box office collections could have exceeded 700 crore, considering the initial momentum. Many expected Rajnikanth to be the first to bring Tamil cinema to the 1000 crore mark, but this currently seems unlikely.

Rajnikanth's film may face a slump this week due to the release of the comedy-spy genre movie 'Udta Teer', starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan. This new film has received positive critical reviews. Now it depends on the audience whether they will choose to watch Ayushmann's film or continue following Rajnikanth's style and mannerisms.

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 surpassed 400 million rupees in four days, overtaking Durandar 2

Tamil cinema superstar Rajinikanth continues to surpass many famous actors despite his age of 75. His recent film 'Jailer 2' is demonstrating impressive box office results and has become one of the highest-grossing films in South Indian cinema this year.

The film 'Jailer 2' collected over 400 million rupees worldwide in just four days after its release. Sunday saw a significant increase in the film's earnings. This movie, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has currently grossed around 424.25 crore rupees globally.

According to the report by Sakalilk, on the fourth day, which was Sunday, 'Jailer 2' earned 55.85 crore rupees in India. Thus, the total net revenue for the film in India reached 199.90 crore rupees, while the gross revenue amounted to 234.25 crore rupees, and overseas earnings were approximately 190 crore rupees. Consequently, the total global gross collection for the film reached 424.25 crore rupees.

Sunday's earnings were 18.2 percent higher than Saturday's. On the first day, the film brought in 59.70 crore rupees. Following that, earnings dropped to 37.10 crore rupees on Friday, but the film regained momentum on Saturday and Sunday.

The film 'Jailer 2' overtook 'Durandar 2: The Revenge' starring Ranveer Singh in global earnings. 'Jailer 2' became the highest-grossing Indian film released in 2026 based on international opening. On its first day outside India, 'Jailer 2' earned about 57 crore rupees, whereas 'Durandar 2' collected 52 crore rupees.

Nevertheless, 'Durandar 2' also showed good results abroad. The film earned over 25 million dollars, or about 240 crore rupees, in North America, surpassing the record of Baahubali 2. Now, 'Jailer 2' faces the task of maintaining its collection pace worldwide after the initial holiday period.
