International rights for the film 'Kig' sold for 175 crore rupees; the film is expected to surpass the records of 'Dhurandar' and 'RRR'

Despite large South Indian films dominating much of the Indian market, Shah Rukh Khan remains the 'King' internationally. This is confirmed by the deal for the international rights of his new film 'Kig'. According to a new report, the international theatrical rights for this film were acquired for 175 crore rupees, setting a new record for Indian cinema.

According to Pinkvilla, Phars Films acquired the international rights to the film for 175 crore rupees (over $18 million). Previously, the international rights to Shah Rukh Khan's films were held by Yash Raj Films. In 2023, Yash Raj Films distributed both 'Pathaan' (shot under Khan's own brand) and 'Jaan', which proved to be highly successful. However, Phars Films also has significant experience in international distribution, having collaborated with Yash Raj Films on several projects and independently distributing Prabhas' film 'Saho'.

Phars Films provided a Minimum Guarantee (MG) of 175 crore rupees for the distribution rights of 'Kig'. Until now, the international rights of any Indian film had not reached the mark of 100 crore rupees, making this achievement quite remarkable.

The Minimum Guarantee (MG) amount set for the film reflects the distributor's confidence in the film's box office success. Internationally, distributors usually receive only 50% of the total box office revenue. Therefore, for 'Kig' to break even, it must collect revenue of $37–40 million, equivalent to approximately 350–375 crore rupees internationally.

Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan's two most successful films—'Pathaan' and 'Jaan'—earned around 400 crore rupees abroad. Now, 'Kig' must earn at least as much, or more, to be profitable. Given such a large MG, 'Kig' must succeed overseas by collecting revenue comparable to at least 'Dhurandar 2' (460 crore rupees) or 'RRR' (430 crore rupees). These films are among the biggest international successes of Indian cinema.

Furthermore, a report by Bollywood Hungama revealed that Pen Marudhar acquired all Indian distribution rights for 'Kig' for 250 crore rupees. It should be noted that Pen Marudhar has long-standing ties with Shah Rukh Khan's production company. The company has previously released films such as 'Jaan', 'Dankii', 'Zero', 'Badla', and 'Ittefaq'.

Although the situation seems simple, it is actually complex because 'Kig' is scheduled for release on Christmas 2026. At that time, it will face major Hollywood blockbusters such as 'Jumanji', 'Avengers: Endgame', and 'Dune 3'. This film will be one of the most massive confrontations in history. Nevertheless, Shah Rukh Khan has a chance to demonstrate his dominance.

Shah Rukh Khan stars in 'Kig', and Siddharth Anand directed the film. This is the second film between Shah Rukh and Siddharth Anand after 'Pathaan', which was released in 2023. The film also features actors Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Jaydeep Ahlawat, Raghav Juyal, and Saurabh Shukla. This is Shah Rukh's first film with his daughter Suhana, who began her acting career in 2023 with the film 'The Archies'. The film will be released in theaters on December 24.

Review of the film 'Dorothy': An exploration of gender stereotypes and self-identification

People often say phrases like 'You are a boy, and you never cry' or 'Boys don't help with housework'—these are attitudes instilled in boys from childhood. There is a concept of toxic masculinity, which was long accepted, although it is discussed more often today, and its meaning has changed. However, there was a time when women did not interfere in a man's life regardless of his actions.

Previously, masculinity was associated with strength and dominance. But what happens if a girl appears in this world built on concepts of masculinity, capable of shaking these ideas? This is the story presented by Thai film director Karthik Subbaraj in his film 'Dorothy,' which recently premiered on Netflix. Before its theatrical release, the film caused a significant stir in Tamil cinema, and after moving to OTT platforms, it is being discussed even more actively, being called one of the best Tamil films of the year.

The plot tells the story of two close friends, Karthik (Rishikant) and Subbu (Sannanth), who have been friends since childhood. In youth, Karthik is portrayed as a weak and frightened child, while Subbu is the bravest. Subbu lost his mother and sister early; his father, Visil (Muthukumar), is a man who is not afraid to display his masculinity, and his older brothers share this view.

Over time, Karthik and Subbu undergo significant changes. Karthik transforms from a timid child into a brave and fearless man, while Subbu becomes weaker and more sensitive, losing his initial courage.

Dorothy (Kirthi Suresh) enters the lives of Subbu and Karthik, bringing joy to Subbu. However, Dorothy dies one day due to men in her house. This tragedy has an extremely negative impact on Subbu, as if someone has ripped out his soul. After losing his mother and sister in childhood, he can no longer cope with the shock of Dorothy's death. As a result, he commits an act that deeply damages his family's reputation, and his entire life turns upside down. The step he takes is revealed to the viewer upon watching the film.

In the trailer, director Karthik Subbaraj did not reveal many details, but a suggestion arises about serious changes in the lives of Karthik and Subbu. However, the changes shown in the film deeply affect the viewer's consciousness. Through Subbu's fate in 'Dorothy,' the viewer can understand the importance of self-identity and acceptance in society. The film shows how a person is forced to hide their true self and wear a mask under societal pressure.

The theme addressed by director Karthik Subbaraj is related to transgenderism. He aimed to show the characters' struggle with complete truth and fearlessness. This film is not for everyone; it is made for a mature audience ready to openly look at such topics. The director deserves credit for daring to present this story on the big screen. The emotions touched upon in 'Dorothy' cause the viewer discomfort and make them think about the value of women in this world.

Although the film is not without flaws, it dedicates a lot of time to plot development. It would have been beneficial to show a bit more of Dorothy's story to strengthen the emotional connection with her character, but the director quickly shifted attention to Subbu and Karthik. Even in the character of Karthik's mother, whom Subbu considers his mother, there is a lack of emotion. The only strong bond between the characters in the film is observed between Karthik and Subbu. The musical score in the film is also good; it creates the necessary emotional moments.

Regarding the main actors, Rishikant's performance as Karthik was very good; the viewer feels an emotional connection with him. His character has his own journey, as does all of Karthik Subbaraj's films. Rishikant fully embodied his character and succeeded in doing so. However, Sannanth attracts the most attention. The transformation he demonstrated in the role of Subbu is praiseworthy. Sannanth breathed life into every scene; the film 'Dorothy' largely depended on him. His performance became the real highlight of the film, and he handled the role perfectly. Through Subbu, Sannanth conveys all the necessary emotions. Furthermore, Kirthi Suresh, although appearing briefly, impresses in the role of Dorothy. Her innocence and smile touch the viewer's heart.

Film 'Hanuman Ansh' collected significant box office revenue, surpassing the film starring Ranbir Kapoor

This year, the Bollywood industry demonstrated the audience's affection for several films, with Hindi movies dominating. Among them, 'Hanuman Ansh,' made on a budget of 20 million rupees, attracted the most attention. The success of this film was unprecedented, as audiences supported it so much that it was recognized as a 'blockbuster of all time.'

'Hanuman Ansh' caused a sensation in September, earning ten times its budget daily. Even after 50 days, it continued to steadily collect revenue, exceeding 400 million rupees worldwide. However, at the beginning of October, the film faced financial difficulties due to the success of 'Drishyam 3' featuring Ajay Devgn.

Subsequently, the public's attention was drawn to Tamil superstar Rajinikanth with his film 'Jailer 2.' Nevertheless, despite the competition from 'Drishyam 3' and 'Jailer 2,' 'Hanuman Ansh' continues to show steady income.

About 80 days have passed since 'Hanuman Ansh' was released in theaters, and it is still being shown in many places, including Delhi-NCR. Notably, even after such a long period, the film continues to perform well. According to Sakencilk's report, on the 79th day of the film's run, the total net collection amounted to 341.26 million rupees, while global gross collections reached 451.56 million rupees.

Although the film has been in theaters for 11 weeks and earns millions daily, it still trails some major Hollywood projects. Thanks to the earnings on the 79th day, 'Hanuman Ansh' managed to surpass the lifetime box office record of Sanjay with Ranbir Kapoor. Ranbir's film, released in 2017, had a total net collection of 341.22 million rupees, which 'Hanuman Ansh' exceeded by four hundred thousand rupees.

As for the film 'Hanuman Ansh' itself, it was directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, who, given the film's success, announced the creation of a sequel.
