Following Pakistan's victory over India in the Hong Kong Sixes 2026 tournament, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif congratulated his team on social media. However, his tweet contained an error that was mocked by former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra. He advised the Prime Minister to check the facts, reminding him that the Pakistani team had lost its first match against the UAE before facing India.
Currently, the Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif's post on social media is generating more discussion than the match between the two countries in the Hong Kong Sixes 2026. Pakistan defeated India in a group stage match by a margin of four wickets. After this victory, Shahbaz Sharif congratulated the entire team and also highly praised the efforts of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Shahbaz Sharif wrote on social media X: 'Congratulations to our team on the brilliant victory against India in the opening stage of Hong Kong Sixes 2026! It was a good cricket match.' He also expressed gratitude to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the players for their preparation and support.
This post by former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra received a sarcastic reaction. He noted that it was too hasty to declare victory over India, which led to fact-checking being ignored. Akash reminded that the Pakistani team had lost to the UAE before the game against India.
Akash Chopra wrote on X: 'The speed in saying 'We beat India' led to fact-checking not being done. Pakistan lost to the UAE in the opening match.' He clarified that Shahbaz Sharif referred to the match against India as the 'opening confrontation' of the tournament, whereas Pakistan had already played its first group match against the UAE, which ended with a loss for Pakistan to the UAE by one wicket. Thus, the mention of the opening match in the Prime Minister's post was factually incorrect.
Akash Chopra continued to criticize the level of cricket in Pakistan, writing: 'You can judge the level of cricket Pakistan plays by the fact that the country's prime minister tweets about the Hong Kong Sixes. I mean... Seriously!' His comment related to Shahbaz Sharif's excessive interest in the team's victory in this six-over match tournament. Following this social media post, a discussion began: some users questioned the Prime Minister's enthusiasm, while others sarcastically noted that Pakistan's victory was being celebrated as if the team had won the World Cup.
Pakistan's Victory Over India
In the match, India initially scored 88 runs in six overs, with Shashank Singh being the highlight of the Indian team, scoring 40 runs in just 11 balls, including five sixes. Nevertheless, the Pakistani batsmen reached the small target very quickly. Abbas Afridi scored 35 runs in only eight balls, and Quaid Nafe played a continuous innings of 41 runs off 12 balls. Abbas also hit five consecutive sixes in the over bowled by Kunal Pandya. Pakistan scored 91 runs, losing only two wickets in 3.5 overs, and won by a margin of four wickets.
