Vastu Tips: Five Corners of the House to Clear Before Diwali to Attract Lakshmi's Blessings

As the festival of Diwali approaches, people begin preparing their homes by cleaning and decorating. In Hinduism, Diwali is considered a festival welcoming the goddess Lakshmi. According to religious beliefs, Goddess Lakshmi resides in a clean home, which is why a thorough cleaning is conducted in every corner of the dwelling before Diwali.

Vastu Shastra also emphasizes the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the house. It is believed that clutter and unnecessary items can amplify negative energy. Therefore, when preparing for Diwali, attention should be paid to often-ignored areas. Below are five places that must be cleared before this festival.

Vastu Tips for Diwali:

1. Keep the Main Entrance Clean

In Vastu Shastra, the main entrance to the house is considered extremely important. It is believed that positive energy enters the dwelling through this point. Therefore, before Diwali, the main entrance and the surrounding area must be thoroughly cleaned of dust, cobwebs, and dirt. Old shoes, broken pots, or unnecessary items should not be left near the door. You can also decorate this spot with a beautiful rangoli and lamps.

2. Don't Forget to Clean the Shrine

During Diwali, worship is performed to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Due to this, special attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the home shrine. Statues, photographs, and ritual items in the shrine must be cleaned. Old flowers, garlands, and offerings should be removed. A clean cloth should be laid in the shrine, and necessary items such as lamps and incense should be placed correctly. Religious belief states that performing rituals in a clean place brings peace of mind.

3. Maintain Cleanliness in the Ishan Corner of the House

In Vastu Shastra, the northeastern sector is called the Ishan Corner. It is considered auspicious for religious rites and worship. Therefore, before Diwali, unnecessary items, old boxes, and junk should be removed from this direction. Try to keep this area clean and organized. According to beliefs, disorder or untidiness in the Ishan Corner can negatively affect the positivity of the home.

4. Clean Around Cabinets and Safes

During Diwali, worship is performed to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera. Therefore, it is essential to clean around cabinets and safes in the house before this festival. Remove old papers, unnecessary receipts, and extra items stored in them. Wipe the safe with a clean cloth and neatly place money and important documents. According to Vastu, the cleanliness of the money storage area is considered auspicious.

5. Also Clean the Roof, Balcony, and Pantry

When cleaning for Diwali, people often forget about the roof, balcony, and pantry. Old boxes, broken items, and trash accumulate in these areas. They should be thoroughly cleaned before Diwali. Remove dry leaves from plants on the balcony and clear up trash accumulated on the roof. Vastu Shastra asserts that maintaining cleanliness in these parts of the house is a good sign.

Diwali Cleaning Tips: How to Prevent Cobwebs from Reappearing in Your Home

During the Diwali holidays, people spend a lot of time on deep cleaning: they dust fans, polish cabinets, and clear cobwebs accumulated in wall corners and on ceilings. However, often despite all efforts, cobwebs reappear in the same places after just a few days. This raises the question of where spiders come from.

If you regularly clean cobwebs but they keep reappearing, there is no need to worry. The problem is not solved by simply removing the webs; it is also necessary to clean the areas where spiders might hide and where small insects that serve as their food source live. By following several simple rules during Diwali cleaning, you can significantly reduce the problem of frequent cobweb cleaning.

Many mistakenly believe that spiders spin webs in every corner of the house. In reality, spiders prefer places where they can easily find small insects for food. If there are many gnats, mosquitoes, and other pests in the house, it becomes easy for spiders to find food.

Furthermore, places such as ceiling corners, the back of cabinets, storage rooms, and the space under furniture, which remain uncleared for long periods, accumulate dust and attract the least attention. These conditions are ideal for spiders to create a place to spin webs. Therefore, if cobwebs constantly appear in a specific corner, attention should be paid not only to removing the webs but also to thoroughly cleaning the surrounding area.

How to Minimize Cobweb Appearance

  1. After removing cobwebs, thoroughly clean the area: if cobwebs are found in a ceiling or wall corner, after removal, this spot must be wiped well with a dry cloth or vacuumed. Do not forget to clean dust and cobwebs from the joints between the ceiling and wall, behind curtains, in window corners, above cabinets, and behind sofas.
  2. Seal gaps in doors and windows: Spiders often enter the house through small gaps around doors and windows. After cleaning cobwebs, these areas must be checked. If a window screen is damaged or there is too much space under the door, it should be repaired. It is also worth sealing small cracks in the walls to reduce entry points for spiders into the house.
  3. Do not allow small insects to breed in the house: Mosquitoes, small flies, and other insects are food for spiders, so their excess increases the probability of spiders appearing. To avoid this, do not leave food exposed in the kitchen, regularly clean trash cans, and maintain cleanliness around windows. It is also necessary to eliminate any places where water accumulates. This will help reduce the population of small insects in the dwelling.
  4. Use mint oil or vinegar: People use home remedies like mint oil and vinegar to repel spiders. Some people spray a few drops of mint oil diluted in water around doors and windows. However, there is no guarantee that these methods will completely prevent the reappearance of spiders. Furthermore, vinegar should not be used on marble or some other surfaces, as it may damage them. Essential oils should be kept away from children and pets.
  5. Clean these areas weekly: To prevent constant cobweb formation, regular cleaning is necessary even after the Diwali festival. Ceiling corners, areas around fans, the back of windows, the top of cabinets, and the space under furniture should be cleaned weekly. Also, old boxes, unnecessary newspapers, or unused items should not be allowed to accumulate, as this reduces hiding places for spiders and decreases the need for frequent cleaning.

When removing cobwebs while preparing for Diwali, the most important thing is to pay attention not only to the cobwebs themselves but also to the surrounding space. A more effective approach may be dusting, repairing gaps in doors and windows, and preventing the breeding of small insects. This approach will help maintain cleanliness in the house and reduce the need for frequent cleaning of the same corners.

How to make delicious and healthy peda from milk using jaggery and dried fruits instead of store-bought sweets

As holidays such as Karva Chauth or Diwali approach, preparations for various sweets begin in homes. There is a concern that commercially produced confectionery items may contain impurities, so during this festive season, it is recommended to prepare pure and nutritious dishes at home. If you want to try something healthy and tasty during this festive period, milk peda made with jaggery and dried fruits is an ideal choice. It is not only very delicious but also healthy.

Below is a simple recipe for this dessert.

The following ingredients are needed: 1 liter of full cream milk, ½ cup of jaggery powder or grated jaggery (to taste), 2 tablespoons of dried fruits (crushed almonds, cashews, pistachios), ½ teaspoon of ground cardamom, and 1-2 teaspoons of butter.

First, bring the full cream milk to a boil in a thick-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. After boiling, reduce the heat and continue stirring constantly until the milk thickens to half its volume, reaching the consistency of mawa or khoya.

In a separate pan, melt a little butter and lightly fry the chopped almonds, cashews, and pistachios until golden brown. Then add this mixture to the milk mass.

When the milk has completely thickened and turned into mawa, turn off the stove and let the mixture cool slightly. It is important to remember that adding jaggery directly to boiling milk can cause the milk to curdle, so the sugar should be added when the mixture is slightly warm.

After that, stir in the ground cardamom, mixing thoroughly to give the dessert a pleasant aroma and taste. When the mass has cooled down a bit, grease your hands with a little butter. Then take small portions of this mass, shape them into balls, and gently press them with your thumb to form pedas.

For decoration on top, you can place a piece of pistachio or almond. The finished, delicious, and healthy milk peda with jaggery and dried fruits is ready. Prepare it for Diwali to delight family and guests.
