Jimmy Nevis to present 'Roses & Thorns' show at Baxter Theatre in Cape Town

Cape Town singer and songwriter Jimmy Nevis is presenting his work on stage in the production 'Roses & Thorns,' which explores themes of love, loss, violence, family, and hope. The show is returning for a one-day performance at the Baxter Theatre.

The artist, who has been nominated six times for the SAMA award, will perform on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at 8:00 PM. He will combine songs from his fourteen-year repertoire with theatrical storytelling, cinematic visual effects, and live music from a six-piece band.

Following its premiere earlier this year, the production is returning to a new venue, offering audiences a different way to experience Nevis's music through four separate stories embodied by theatre and television award-winning actor Dan Smith.

'Roses & Thorns' is based on Nevis's identity and personal experience as a coloured man from Cape Town, touching upon personal struggles and the realities of the communities around him.

The production blends contemporary South African pop and R&B with character-driven narrative. Four distinct characters are used to add new layers of meaning to Nevis's songs.

The performance merges live music, theatre, and visual elements, creating an experience that goes beyond a typical concert. Nevis himself stated: 'Roses & Thorns is about what we carry, about the experiences that shape us, and about the different sides of ourselves that we don't always show the world.'

He added: 'I am excited to present this production at The Baxter and share this experience with the audience in a space that allows us to explore music and storytelling together.'

Nevis serves as the creator, performer, and producer of 'Roses & Thorns.' The production also features director and writer Kim Blanche Adonis, assistant producer and writer Daniel Mpilolo My Richards, and musical director and producer Darren Petersen.

Together, the creative team transforms music and theatre into a dialogue, using live performance and storytelling to examine experiences such as love, loss, family, and hope. Through the combination of live instrumental accompaniment, theatrical plots, and cinematic imagery, 'Roses & Thorns' offers the public a fresh perspective on Nevis's music and the stories behind it. The production will take place at the Baxter Theatre on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at 8:00 PM.

Tiquequê performs children's show 'Coleções' in Volta Redonda with solidarity ticket system

The children's show titled 'Coleções,' presented by the duo Tiquequê, will be shown at the Maestro Franklin de Carvalho Jr. Theater, located in Volta Redonda. The performance will take place on Wednesday, the 28th, at 8 p.m.

This event is an initiative of the Volta Redonda City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Culture (SMC), in collaboration with Sesc-RJ and Sicomércio-VR.

The organizers established that tickets for the show can be obtained by donating one liter of milk. This exchange process is available between Tuesday, the 27th, and Wednesday, the 28th, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Raul de Leoni Municipal Library, located in Vila Santa Cecília.

It is important to note that there is a limit of two tickets per individual.

With a career spanning over 25 years focused on music for children and families, Tiquequê offers spectators an experience that integrates elements of dance, body expression, and music. The goal is to encourage the audience to recognize the inherent beauty in the act of collecting, whether objects, sounds, narratives, or experiences.

The repertoire includes both original songs and well-known hits, such as 'Barulhinho, Barulhão,' 'Bota Ovo,' and 'Quero Começar,' presented from new perspectives. The show will also feature set design, illustrations, and video projections created by the artist Renata Lacerda, in addition to offering Libras translation and having a trained team to welcome atypical families.
