Man selling magnetic belts to teachers in Andhra Pradesh schools claiming to represent the government

In schools in Hammam, Andhra Pradesh, a case of magnetic belt sales to teachers in government schools was discovered. One individual visited several educational institutions, claiming to be sent by the central government.

He stated that he had arrived to distribute these belts as part of the Arogya Setu initiative. Through this person, the belts were sold to teachers for a price ranging from 300 to 350 rupees.

After this incident became known, the Department of Education began gathering information. Shailadja, an employee of the Hammam Urban Mandal Education Department, spoke with teachers from the relevant schools. The investigation revealed that some teachers had indeed purchased the belts from this individual.

Education department employee Shailadja reported that this person visited government schools in the areas of Shantinagar, Naya Bazar, and Rajendra Nagar in Hammam. He claimed to have come on behalf of Arogya Setu and also stated that the central government had dispatched him to sell magnetic belts in the schools. The man offered the belts to teachers in the price range of 300 to 350 rupees. Some teachers believed his words and bought the belts.

Upon receiving information about this situation, MEO Shailadja contacted the teachers of the respective schools. She asked them if anyone had come to the school claiming to be a representative of Arogya Setu or the central government. The teachers informed her about the belt sales. Following this, Shailadja clarified that neither the central government nor Arogya Setu had authorized any person to enter schools and sell magnetic belts. Furthermore, no official directives on this matter had been issued.

The education department employee emphasized that unauthorized representation as being affiliated with the central government or Arogya Setu without permission is improper. She made it clear that selling goods under the guise of government institutions is unacceptable.

This incident raised questions about the infiltration of outsiders into government schools and the sale of goods under the pretense of official affiliation. Some teachers purchased the belts. The education department employee also held discussions with the teachers to confirm all details of the case.

British teacher in Dubai ICU after child loss; costs approach 500,000 dirhams

The community has offered support to the British teacher by organizing a fundraiser. By Thursday, UAE time, £104,667 (AED 512,387) had been raised towards the target of £120,000 (AED 587,400) through 2,500 donations, as the family faces rising medical expenses.

Zoe Campbell-Lounds, who previously taught at GEMS Founders School – Dubai, is fighting for her life in a Dubai hospital after losing her son at 30 weeks pregnant.

The family sought financial assistance because medical bills exceeded £100,000 (approximately AED 460,000).

When Khaleej Times contacted Matthew Burfield, Executive Director/CEO of GEMS Founders School – Dubai and Executive Vice President of Education at GEMS Education, he expressed condolences over the loss and concern for Zoe's condition.

He stated: 'We are deeply saddened by the loss of Zoe's son and very concerned about her condition as she undergoes intensive medical treatment. Zoe previously taught at GEMS Founders School – Dubai, and our thoughts are with her, her partner, and their family during this incredibly difficult time. We respect the family's privacy and will not share further details about her health on their behalf.'

According to the fundraising appeal, Zoe remains in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Her condition remains critical following complications arising from the birth.

The family reported that Zoe's health significantly deteriorated after the C-section, and doctors are working to treat multiple complications.

The fundraiser states that Zoe spent three days in intensive care and suffered internal bleeding twice. She also required blood transfusions and dialysis, and her liver and kidneys are failing.

The charitable campaign on the UK-based platform GoFundMe describes this situation as an unimaginable ordeal for a family grieving the loss of a child while hoping for Zoe's recovery.

In addition to the emotional burden of losing a child, the family is forced to cope with mounting hospital costs while Zoe continues to receive intensive treatment.

The fundraiser indicated that the family believed their maternity insurance plan would provide financial protection in case of complications. However, they later discovered that the policy covered the child but not the mother's medical emergencies.

The appeal notes that treatment costs have already surpassed £100,000, and expenses continue to rise as Zoe receives medical care, including surgeries, blood transfusions, dialysis, and intensive care.

The family is asking for donations to alleviate the financial pressure and allow them to focus on Zoe's treatment and recovery during this exceptionally difficult period.

Mozambique promises to pay debts of nearly 30 thousand teachers by December

The Ministry of Education in Mozambique announced its intention to resume the payment of overtime hours for 2023 to nearly 29,466 teachers soon, planning to settle this debt in three installments by December 2026.

In a statement published after a meeting between the Minister of Education and Culture, Edson Macuacuá, and the National Teachers' Organization (ONP), the government informed the teaching staff about the upcoming resumption of 2023 overtime payments. These payments will be made in three parts, each constituting one-third of the debt, subject to financial capacity until December 2026.

The document specifies that this measure covers 29,466 teachers with unpaid amounts: 24,933 of them have received partial payments, while 4,533 have not yet received any payments. Furthermore, 15,866 teachers have already received the full amount corresponding to 2023.

The Ministry emphasized that the disbursement of payments depends on the state's financial situation, but the executive branch maintains the commitment to gradually resolve the arrears.

Additionally, the message mentions that another 15,866 teachers have already received the full amount due to them for overtime worked in 2023.

Regarding overtime hours accumulated from 2024 to 2026, Edson Macuacuá stated that the verification and calculation process of the debt is ongoing in coordination with the Ministry of Finance to subsequently determine the payment plan.

The Minister also announced the resolution of the situation for 7,076 employees whose cases were suspended by administrative acts in 2021 due to the introduction of the Unified Tariff Grid (TSU), including 5,092 teachers. Payments for these processes are scheduled to begin in November.

In terms of professional careers, the executive branch intends to prioritize promotion for teachers with the lowest salary levels. 82,952 teachers at levels 06 to 11 were identified as meeting the requirements for promotion, although this process is also contingent upon budgetary capabilities.

The document notes that during the meeting, the minister also raised issues related to teachers' working conditions, assuring the continuation of negotiations regarding the restoration of the location allowance, which has been suspended in recent years.

The government official also advocated for identifying the most problematic areas for teacher distribution, creating rotation mechanisms, and attracting partners to improve housing conditions for educators and school infrastructure. He stated: 'We want to speak clearly and responsibly, without creating expectations that we cannot meet.'

The visit to the ONP was Edson Macuacuá's first public activity after assuming office as Minister of Education and Culture on October 14. The Minister advocated for strengthening dialogue with the teaching staff to find solutions to the sector's main problems.

Macuacuá took office as minister, replacing Samaria Tovel, who was dismissed the same day by order of Chapo. Previously, he held the position of Secretary of State for Science and Higher Education, which is now held by Isaú Joaquim Menezes, who was also appointed that day. Tovel's dismissal occurred on the day the then-minister criticized teacher debt and advocated for improving the management of their income. During the II Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Education and Culture, she stated that some teachers receive only 200 meticals (2.8 euros) monthly after deductions.
