Sensex and Nifty Recover After Decline Thanks to Three Factors

The Indian stock market began trading on Friday with a sluggish pace. During the first hour of trading, both major indices—Sensex and Nifty—showed a decline. However, the market soon recovered, and thanks to increased buying, the Sensex rose by more than 500 points, while the Nifty showed a rise of over 150 points. The market was supported by purchases in IT stocks, good results from the Tata group's company Trent, and the strengthening of the rupee.

Initial Sluggishness, Then Market Acceleration

On Friday, October 30, Sensex and Nifty started trading in the green zone. After an initial rise, pressure emerged in the market, and both indices dropped into the red zone for a period. Nevertheless, the return of buyers at low levels allowed the market to recover. During day trading, the Sensex rose to 74,731.42, increasing by 580.38 points compared to the previous close. Nifty reached a high of 23,110.50, showing a rise of 173.75 points. Previously, on Thursday, the market also showed good growth: Sensex closed at 74,151.04, up by 905.01 points or 1.24 percent. Nifty demonstrated an increase of 237.90 points or 1.05 percent, ending trading at 22,936.75.

First Reason for Growth: Purchases in IT Stocks

The IT companies' stocks provided the biggest support to the market on Friday. The Nifty IT sector index rose by approximately 2.3 percent. Interestingly, many Asian markets saw a fall in shares of companies related to artificial intelligence (AI). Investors fear that growing corporate spending on AI may not yield the expected profits in the future. Despite this, Indian IT companies attracted buyers. Analysts suggest that instead of massive AI spending, many foreign firms might focus on cost reduction, automation, and outsourcing. In such a situation, Indian IT companies could receive new orders, which supported the stocks of this sector. Confidence in the sector was also strengthened by Cognizant's stable results in the September quarter. The company's revenue amounted to $5.66 billion, which is 4.8 percent higher year-on-year, and its order volume grew by 4 percent, reaching $28.7 billion.

Second Reason: Stock Rise After Good Results from Trent

Trent's stocks, a retail company of the Tata group, also showed strong demand. After publishing positive results for the second quarter (Q2), the company's shares rose by approximately 6 percent during trading. Trent's results boosted investor confidence and supported market growth. Furthermore, positive reports from some other companies and stable domestic demand strengthened market sentiment. Investors showed interest in individual company stocks.

Third Reason: Market Support from Strong Rupee

At the start of Friday's trading, the Indian rupee strengthened by 7 points against the US dollar, reaching 95.19. The rupee received support due to the weakening dollar and lower yields on American bonds. However, the rupee's rise was limited by rising crude oil prices. On Thursday, the rupee closed at 95.26 per dollar, showing a rise of 2 points. The strengthening of the rupee also brought some respite to the market. Nevertheless, high crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain concerns for investors.

What Will Be Important for the Market Next?

Strong results from individual companies and stable domestic demand are supporting market sentiment. However, high crude oil prices and ongoing tension in the Middle East pose serious risks to the market. Currently, Nifty has risen by approximately 1.6 percent in October, and Sensex by 2.5 percent. Thus, the recovery on Friday brought relief to the market, but further movement will largely depend on second-quarter company results, crude oil prices, and global signals.

Alternative Investment Options: How to Earn 200 Thousand on a 500 Thousand Investment

The Indian stock market is experiencing a significant decline. The Sensex index has fallen by more than 1200 points in the last four days, and the Nifty has dropped by approximately 400 points. As a result, investors have incurred losses exceeding 10 trillion rupees. Looking at the annual figure, the situation appears even more alarming: since January of this year, investors have lost over 30 trillion rupees, with the Sensex and Nifty declining by 15 percent.

Consequently, many investors are refraining from investing in the market and are looking for other financial instruments that could provide good returns without high market risks. This article presents three options where funds can be placed to generate profit.

These investment schemes include bank deposits (Bank FD), Post Office savings deposits (Post Office RD), and Post Office fixed deposits (Post Office FD). Next, we examine where the highest return can be obtained when investing 500 thousand rupees.

Investing in Post Office RD

When placing five hundred thousand rupees in a Recurring Deposit, one million rupees must be deposited annually, which is equivalent to a monthly contribution of 8334 rupees. For this deposit, the annual interest rate will be 6.7%. After five years, the total amount will be 5,91,634 rupees, of which the interest income will be 91,634 rupees.

Post Office Fixed Deposit

The Post Office offers the option to invest in a fixed deposit with three different maturity periods. By choosing a five-year term for a fixed deposit, one can receive substantial profits and also benefit from tax incentives. For a five-year deposit, the rate is 7.50% per annum. Thus, by investing five hundred thousand rupees for five years, the total amount will reach 7,24,974 rupees, with an interest income of 2,24,974 rupees.

Interest on Bank Deposit

Most banks offer interest rates on five-year fixed deposits above 7 percent. Assuming a rate of 7%, after five years, an investment of five hundred thousand rupees will yield 7,07,389 rupees, meaning an interest income of 2,07,389 rupees.

BSE Sensex Index Falls by 1400 Points After Sharp Rise, Stock Market Crashes

Tuesday proved to be an extremely unexpected day for investors in the stock market. Following a strong initial rise, the stock market experienced a crash. The Bombay Stock Exchange's (BSE) Sensex index fell by approximately 1400 points from its daily high by 13:30.

The situation was also unfavorable for the National Stock Exchange's (NSE) Nifty index.

The BSE Sensex opened on Wednesday with a strong surge, exceeding the 74 thousand mark. It began trading at 74,337.93, up from Monday's close of 73,852.90. Within minutes, the index demonstrated rapid growth, reaching 74,682.19.

However, after reaching this level, the rise suddenly turned into a decline. By the time the article was written, the Sensex had dropped to 73,281, representing a fall of 1401 points from its daily high.

Similar to the BSE Sensex, the Nifty index, which comprises 50 NSE stocks, also changed its momentum. After starting trading with a strong acceleration, Nifty suddenly plummeted. On Wednesday, the index opened at 23,016, showing growth compared to the previous close of 22,888.95, and reached 23,120, following the movements of the Sensex. A subsequent decline followed, and the index traded at 22,672, which represented a drop of 448 points from the daily high.

Sharp Decline in Large Stocks

While most large-cap stocks on the BSE looked green during the initial trading, by the time of publication, stocks such as Eternal Share (3.40%), Bajaj Finance Share (3.30%), Trent Share (2.88%), Maruti Share (2.40%), Axis Bank Share (2.20%), NTPC Share (2.15%), Bajaj Finserv Share (2.10%), BEL Share (2.15%), IndiGo Share (2.05%), M&M Share (1.95%), and HDFC Bank Share (1.60%) were observed to be falling.

Fluctuations in RIL and IT Stocks

Amid the overall market downturn, many large company stocks experienced a decline. Nevertheless, Reliance Industries shares, belonging to Mukesh Ambani's company, showed growth of up to 2.30% due to the launch of the Jio Platforms IPO. However, the rate of growth slowed down along with the market crash. Furthermore, Infosys Share (3.10%), Tech Mahindra Share (2.80%), HCL Tech Share (2.20%), and TCS Share (2.09%) demonstrated growth.

The main question was what caused the change in market sentiment and the collapse of Sensex-Nifty after such a vigorous rise. The primary reason is considered to be the rise in crude oil prices. Tensions continuing in the Middle East and the reduction in crude oil reserves in the US led to the international crude oil price exceeding $110 per barrel.

The high cost of oil raises concerns for major importers like India and puts pressure on the market. Additionally, profit-taking among investors, who actively sold assets as soon as the market started rising amid uncertainty, played a significant role in the decline.

Indian stock market sharply declines: Sensex index loses over 1000 points

The Indian stock market experienced a sudden and significant decline on Monday. The Sensex index lost about a thousand points, while the Nifty also fell by approximately 300 points.

By 1:30 PM, the Sensex had dropped by 930.80 points or 1.25%, reaching 73,798.47, while the Nifty closed at 22,867.75, showing a fall of 278.40 points or 1.20%.

Out of 30 stocks listed on the BSE, only 4 showed a slight increase, while the remaining 26 experienced a substantial drop. HDFC Bank contributed the most to the decline, with its shares falling by approximately 3%. This was followed by Axis Bank, which fell by about 4%, Infosys by 3%, as well as stocks like Trent, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever, and Bajaj Finance, which decreased by more than 2%.

Investor losses amounted to 400 billion rupees

This sharp downturn led to a significant reduction in investor earnings. The market capitalization of BSE companies decreased from 472 billion rupees to approximately 468 billion rupees, corresponding to a loss of about 400 billion rupees.

Four reasons for the decline

1. Significant drop in banking stocks: Following the release of second-quarter results for the fiscal year 2027 by private banks, including HDFC Bank, bank stocks fell by 2%, and this bank entered the list of stocks with the largest losses in the Nifty 50. Furthermore, Axis Bank shares also fell by more than 4%; there was also a decline in the shares of Kotak Mahindra Bank and ICICI Bank.

2. Weak sentiment: The MSCI, the broadest index of the Asian stock market, declined by 0.5%. While the KOSPI of South Korea recovered from an initial fall and reached a gain of 0.2%, the Nikkei 225 futures of Japan dropped by 1.3%, the Hang Seng futures of Hong Kong fell by 0.2%, and the Shanghai Composite also dropped by 0.2%.

Additionally, the US market recorded a sharp decline on Friday as sales of AI-related IT stocks resumed, and crude oil prices continued to rise, which was also a blow to the Indian market.

3. High crude oil prices: Brent Crude fell by 1.5% to $108.27 per barrel, and WTI fell by 0.6% to $100.83 per barrel. Despite the drop on Monday, crude oil prices remained high, and the impact of geopolitical tensions persisted on market sentiment.

4. Rise in VIX in India: The fear index, or volatility index, rose by almost 4%, reaching 14.52, indicating increased uncertainty among investors.
