Vedanta plans to invest $25 billion over three years for organic growth

Senior management of the company announced that the Vedanta group has prepared investments totaling $25 billion for the next three years. These funds will be directed towards expanding the capacities of existing enterprises through organic growth and modernizing current facilities.

Vedanta's founder and chairman, Anil Agarwal, stated that the conglomerate will focus on developing its existing assets but will remain ready to acquire state assets if suitable opportunities arise.

Agarwal specified that the current capital expenditure plans involve organic development in the aluminum, copper, zinc, oil, and gas sectors, with all these expansions representing the modernization of existing production. He emphasized that the total investment amount will be around $25 billion.

These capital investments will also support Vedanta's ambition to become one of the world's largest producers of critical metals and to take a leading position in silver production within three to four years.

According to Agarwal, the group, which consists of 10 major companies, aims to increase its total business volume from $30 billion to $50 billion over three years. He assured that the group's debt burden is at a comfortable level, and current capital expenditures can be financed through internal revenues.

Agarwal noted that the parent holding company, Vedanta Resources, has borrowings of approximately $5 billion against assets valued at over $100 billion. He added that dividends from majority-owned shares and strong cash flows from subsidiaries are more than sufficient to service this debt.

Regarding renewable energy, which Agarwal called a key direction for the group, he reported that Vedanta currently has a capacity of about 5000 MW and plans to add another 5000 MW within the next one to one and a half years. Furthermore, Agarwal stated that the group prioritizes value over profit, giving equal attention to natural resources and technological infrastructure.

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to provide Davr Bank with up to $25 million to support youth business

According to the bank's press service, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide Uzbek Davr Bank with a loan of up to 25 million US dollars. These funds are intended to expand financing for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises owned or managed by young entrepreneurs.

The financing will be carried out under the EBRD's 'Youth in Business' program in Central Asia, which focuses on enterprises owned or managed by entrepreneurs under 35 years old. The loan can be offered either as synthetic financing pegged to the Uzbek sum or in US dollars.

Furthermore, at least 30% of the allocated funds will be directed towards supporting micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises led by women. Additionally, Davr Bank intends to increase lending to businesses located in rural areas of Uzbekistan.

Young Davr Bank clients who meet the program criteria can benefit from the EBRD's 'Advice for Small Businesses' initiative, which provides training, consulting support, and other non-financial services. The goal of this project is to improve young entrepreneurs' access to financing outside the capital.

The project will also help Davr Bank continue to improve its banking products and internal systems for more effective service to this client group. EBRD considers creating new jobs for the young generation with technical and digital skills a priority, given that, according to government data, over 26% of Uzbekistan's population is aged 30 or younger.

EBRD operates in Uzbekistan to support private entrepreneurship and economic development. The bank reported that its total investments in the country have reached nearly 7.3 billion US dollars across 219 projects.

Vedanta invests $600 million to double zinc production capacity in South Africa

Vedanta Ltd has allocated nearly $600 million to double the annual zinc production capacity in its South African operations, bringing it to 500,000 tons. This aligns with the company's overall goal of achieving an annual zinc production volume of 3 million tons in the Indian and South African markets.

The investment is being made in the Gamswort mine in South Africa, which is the flagship zinc mine of Vedanta Zinc International. This expansion is part of the company's broader plans to increase zinc extraction in its operations in India and South Africa.

Vedanta plans to produce 2 million tons annually through its subsidiary Hindustan Zinc Ltd and 1 million tons through Vedanta Zinc International.

This expansion is part of Vedanta's total commitment of 21 billion South African Rand (equivalent to almost $1.5 billion), announced by the company at the South African Investment Conference in 2018. The company described the Gamswort expansion as one of the largest mining investments in South Africa in the last decade.

The second phase of the Gamswort mine expansion, located in the Northern Cape province, was inaugurated by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Vedanta Director Priya Agarwal-Hebbar on Sunday.

Ramaphosa welcomed the investment, stating that the South African government would cooperate with Vedanta and other partners to meet the company's needs. He noted: 'We welcome Vedanta's ambitions to create zinc smelting capacity in the Northern Cape,' adding that the investment project has moved from the commitment stage to construction and production.

The expansion comes amid Vedanta's drive to strengthen its position in the global zinc market. Zinc is critical for industrial and infrastructure development, as galvanization using zinc protects steel from corrosion and extends its lifespan. This metal is used in the construction, automotive, and manufacturing sectors.

Priya Agarwal-Hebbar emphasized that this expansion demonstrates the company's commitment to South Africa and its aim to create a significant zinc production center and industrial hub in the region.
