Uzbekistan and ICRISAT plan to expand cooperation in seed production

The Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan announced plans by Uzbekistan and the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) to expand joint work in the field of seed production.

The issue was discussed by the Minister of Agriculture Ibragim Abdurakhmonov and representatives of the institute during his working trip to the United States. The meeting took place with a group of specialists led by Manzur Dara, who represented ICRISAT.

The parties discussed opportunities to expand scientific interaction, organize meetings between relevant specialists, and define priority areas for joint activities. As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached to sign a bilateral cooperation document at upcoming high-level events.

One of the potentially important areas of cooperation will be the research of agricultural crop breeding and seed production. In the context of climate change, water scarcity, and growing food demand, the development of high-yield varieties resistant to adverse conditions is becoming increasingly important.

Cooperation with international research centers can contribute to the introduction of modern breeding methods, experience exchange, and professional development of specialists. It is expected that the partnership with ICRISAT will create additional opportunities to strengthen Uzbekistan's research potential in seed production and increase the resilience of its agriculture to climate change. Abdurakhmonov's working trip to the United States is ongoing.

Uzbekistan is preparing 12 projects for the production of energy equipment worth $850 million

Uzbekistan has prepared twelve potential projects with a total value of 850 million US dollars aimed at localizing the production of energy equipment, which is currently largely imported. These projects were presented on October 16 during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's open dialogue with investors in the fuel and energy sector.

The planned projects include the production of high-voltage equipment, control modules for energy storage systems, and components for wind turbines.

Last year, the volume of domestic goods and services used in energy sector investment projects reached 740 million US dollars. The President noted that this figure can be increased three or fourfold.

As an example, Mirziyoyev mentioned the company Energy China from China, which utilized local products for approximately 40% of the equipment and materials when constructing eight energy storage facilities.

The Agency for Industrial Cooperation, industry associations, and enterprises will jointly determine the requirements for the volume and quality of products needed by investors and organize systematic supplies.

The President emphasized that energy projects stimulate high demand for copper products. He also stated that Uzbekistan is one of the world leaders in copper mining.

The implementation of these projects increases the need for cables, transformers, metal structures, and building materials. Mirziyoyev assured that local manufacturers are capable of competing in terms of quality, price, and compliance with international standards.

In the Farish district of the Jizzakh region, a special industrial zone will be created with tax and customs benefits at the site of the planned nuclear power plant construction. This zone will specialize in producing new types of products required for the NPP.

The President invited international investors to participate in these projects.

Mirziyoyev stressed that Uzbekistan is entering into international partnerships based on its strengths, including natural resources, industrial enterprises, engineers, and a well-educated young population. He believes that combining these resources with the technology, capital, and experience of foreign partners will create greater added value.

According to the President, the economic rationale behind Uzbekistan's approach lies in developing internal capabilities, building equal partnerships with the global community, and taking responsibility for a common future.
