iOS 27 allows age verification via selfie for access to adult websites

Users of iPhone devices equipped with iOS 27.2 have started receiving notifications requesting age confirmation when attempting to access websites containing adult material in Brazilian territory. To validate their age, the system offers two alternatives: using a valid credit card or a photograph (selfie) that will be evaluated by a facial estimation mechanism.

Access to pages categorized as adult remains blocked until the validation process is completed. This access limitation applies to third-party browsers as well as private browsing sessions.

The activation of this verification occurs as soon as the browser detects a domain classified as adult, which includes content such as pornography, nudity representations, or graphic violence. If the user refuses the check or fails to complete the procedure, the content will remain inaccessible on the device.

On iPhones and iPads, this restriction is not limited only to Safari. Since browsers in the iOS ecosystem use the WebKit infrastructure, the block also extends to Google Chrome and other browsing applications. The configuration option can be found in 'Web Content Restrictions.'

In the Brazilian context, Apple provides two methods to determine age range. The first method requires a valid credit card to perform a temporary data check, without any charge on the user's statement. The second option, introduced starting with iOS 27.2, consists of facial estimation through a selfie. This system calculates the probable age in a few seconds, eliminating the need to enter banking information.

Apple assures that all selfie processing is done in an encrypted and private manner. According to the company, the image used for analysis is not stored on its servers, nor is it saved in the device's gallery, nor is it shared with the visited websites.

After successful confirmation, the permission is registered directly on the device itself. This means the user will not need to repeat the validation when opening each new tab. It is possible to modify or reset these content restrictions in the system settings.

It is important to note that this age verification for websites differs from Apple's 'Sensitive Content Warning' feature. The latter serves to identify inappropriate media before it is displayed on the screen. It operates on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, covering various applications and sharing methods. To enable this protection, one must navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Sensitive Content Warning. When the system recognizes inappropriate material, the image is obscured. The user has the option to view the content, block the sender, or report the sender directly to Apple.

Apple tests iPhone Duo 2 prototypes with under-display Face ID on the outer screen

Apple is reportedly testing prototypes of the iPhone Duo 2, incorporating the Face ID system hidden beneath the outer screen. This modification would allow the second version of the foldable device to regain biometric recognition present in conventional iPhones, eliminating the need for a larger cutout on the display.

The news was reported on Thursday, October 22, by journalist Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. According to him, the launch of this model is projected to occur between September and December 2027.

The initial iPhone Duo model used Touch ID integrated into the side button, following an approach similar to that used in the iPad Air and iPad mini. The choice of fingerprint reader was due to the limited internal space in the thin foldable design, which drew criticism in early reviews conducted in the United States. The website 9to5Mac pointed out that returning to the side button felt like a step backward after years of using facial recognition.

In the prototypes mentioned by Gurman, the components responsible for facial authentication are located under the outer screen. This would allow Apple to implement Face ID without adding a large cutout to the panel. The tests also suggest that Apple may accelerate its timelines. Previously, Gurman estimated that Face ID and a telephoto camera would only appear in the third generation of the Duo in September.

It is worth noting that Apple has been investing for years in methods to conceal Face ID components. For example, the iPhone 18 Pro uses an infrared camera positioned under the display, a technology that helped reduce the size of the Dynamic Island.

While Apple evaluates the supposed next generation, the first iPhone Duo began to be officially made available to consumers this Friday, October 23. In Brazil, the foldable starts at a price of R$ 21,999 for the 256 GB configuration. The 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB versions are quoted at R$ 23,499, R$ 26,499, and R$ 30,999, respectively.

Due to high demand, delivery times have been extended; some orders may not arrive until January 2027. Apple started pre-orders in the country on October 16, one week before the official launch. The first Duo features 5.4 and 7.6-inch screens, equipped with the A20 Pro chip and two 48-megapixel rear cameras, with the second generation expected in 2027.
