Lighthouse Communities Foundation listed on Social Stock Exchange BSE to support youth employment

Lighthouse Communities Foundation (LCF), a non-profit organization dedicated to improving earning opportunities for vulnerable youth, announced its listing on the Bombay Stock Exchange's (BSE) Social Stock Exchange (SSE).

This move followed the public offering of Zero Coupon Zero Principal (ZCZP) instruments, which took place from September 30 to October 14, 2026. The significant event was marked by a bell ringing ceremony at the BSE on October 29, attended by government representatives, corporate partners, philanthropic organizations, and the organization's leadership.

The listing grants LCF access to a regulated platform that allows corporations, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partners, and impact-focused advocates to fund its activities. ZCZP instruments differ from traditional investments in that they do not yield interest or return principal; instead, subscribers contribute funds towards achieving specific social outcomes, and the platform obligates the organization to report on fund utilization and progress made.

Manisha Verma, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the Government of Maharashtra, who attended the ceremony as the chief guest, noted: 'Models combining career counseling, skills training, and employer linkages, supported by transparent financing, are exactly what our youth need to achieve stable income.'

This inclusion comes as LCF seeks to expand its model, which integrates public infrastructure with corporate sector support to implement livelihood programs. LCF's Lighthouse program begins by helping participants understand their aspirations and strengths before selecting a vocational training path. The foundation collaborates with partner organizations that offer courses aligned with available employment opportunities.

Since its establishment in 2015, LCF has reached over 290,000 young people across six states. Its Lighthouse program operates in 51 centers, with women constituting nearly 60% of those enrolled. According to the foundation, 77% of employed youth remain in their jobs one year after employment.

This model unites state and local authorities, which provide infrastructure, with corporate partners, who finance operations and implementation. Dr. Ganesh Natarajan, co-founder and chairman of LCF, stated that the listing marks an important milestone in the organization's work with vulnerable youth. He emphasized that the bell ringing at the BSE is a proud moment for everyone involved in the Lighthouse journey, including the youth, partner organizations, corporations, and governments that supported them in the early stages.

Ganesh Natarajan added that LCF aims to reach one million young people nationwide, assisting them in choosing and building desired careers. Funds raised from the offering will be directed to support LCF's work in Pune, aiming to help 500 young people develop career awareness, confidence, and job readiness skills for accessing sustainable earnings.

In Maharashtra, the foundation works jointly with the Department of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in January 2023. Initiatives include the Lighthouse center at ITI Mulund and Model Career Centers in Thane and Nagpur. This partnership has enabled career counseling for over 5,500 young people, trained more than 2,075, and provided employment support to over 3,200 individuals.

The next phase of the program is expected to involve expansion to additional Model Career Centers and industrial training institutes, including in Chattrapati Sambhajinagar and Amravati. Lighthouse Communities Foundation will report its progress according to the Social Stock Exchange's disclosure system. For the foundation, the listing opens up the possibility of linking funding to measurable results during the expansion of access to significant and sustainable sources of income.
