The Indian private investment firm One Planet Partners has announced a partnership with the Japanese bank Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank to launch its debut fund worth 300 billion rupees.
According to the statement, the Japanese financial institution made an equity investment in One Planet Partners and also acted as a guarantor for the specialized private equity fund, which will be managed by One Planet. This fund will focus on high-growth enterprises benefiting from the energy transition, mobility development, and industrial expansion based on manufacturing in India.
One Planet was founded in 2024 by four partners: Mukund Rajan, Bobby Pauli, Mirnalini Mirchandani, and Shital Takkar. One Planet Partners plans to work with growing mid-market enterprises, providing scaling capital ranging from 100 to 500 billion rupees to companies with attractive unit economics and revenues between 200 and 2000 billion rupees.
The firm aims to combine capital growth with active ownership and operational expertise to help businesses scale up and strengthen their competitive positions. Mukund Rajan, founder and chairman of One Planet Partners, stated: 'With strong institutional support, our goal is to create a world-class investment platform focused on high-growth businesses at the intersection of India's economic growth, energy transition, and industrial transformation.'
One Planet Partners has already begun deploying capital. The platform's first investment was in the Indian electric mobility company Yulu Bikes Private Limited. This investment was part of Yulu's Series C funding round totaling $93 million.
Kazuya Yoneda, General Manager of the Equity Investment Department at Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, noted: 'India is one of the most attractive long-term investment destinations in the world. Our strategic investments reflect confidence in both the market and the proven experience of One Planet Partners, its institutional approach, and its unique ability to access private markets in India and create value.'
