Uttar Pradesh to ensure round-the-clock power supply during Diwali and Chhath; disconnections due to arrears prohibited

The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has intensified preparations to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to residents of the state during the festivals of Diwali, Chhath, and other celebrations without any disruptions.

Minister of Urban Development and Energy, Arvind Kumar Sharma, issued directives to energy department employees to ensure 24-hour power supply during the festive period. He emphasized that since Diwali is the festival of lights, unnecessary disconnections and frequent power outages are unacceptable.

Minister Sharma also instructed that electricity connections should not be disconnected from consumers due to unpaid bills during the festive season. Furthermore, he demanded the identification of large and organized consumers violating the rules and taking strict measures against them in accordance with established norms, while avoiding undue concern for small consumers.

He directed officials to guarantee that consumers who regularly pay their electricity bills will not face issues with disconnections or tripping circuit breakers due to debtors. Where necessary, work to increase transformer capacity should be carried out immediately.

The Minister also congratulated consumers on receiving a 9.70 percent discount on their November electricity bills. This benefit will be available to consumers of various categories, including households and businesses, for the fifth consecutive month.

Reviewing the power supply system of newly formed municipal councils, Minister AK Sharma stated that continuous and quality electricity supply, similar to that in headquarters, must also be ensured in these areas. He added that the Urban Development Department is ready to allocate additional budget as needed to improve the power supply system, and therefore officials must work quickly to rectify the situation.
