Jio Platforms and Mukesh Ambani's in-laws' company shares show growth on the stock exchange

Shares of Jio Platforms, owned by Mukesh Ambani, successfully debuted in the market. Following an impressive listing day, Jio Platforms shares continued to rise on Thursday, showing a significant surge.

Not only did Ambani's shares demonstrate growth, but Piramal Pharma shares, the company of Mukesh Ambani's in-laws, also showed a sharp jump. While Jio grew by over 16% at its listing, it continued to rise on Thursday, bringing returns to investors.

Looking at the dynamics of Jio Platforms shares on the second day after going public, it is worth noting that they debuted in the market with a gain of 21 percent. By the close of trading, this figure exceeded 25%, reaching the mark of 1419 rupees. On Thursday, strong trading was also observed; the shares opened at 1445.90 rupees and quickly rose to 1489.70 rupees.

While Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries shares traded sluggishly after the Jio Platforms listing, Piramal Pharma shares, the company of Mukesh Ambani's in-laws, looked like a rocket. These pharmaceutical shares closed at 230.60 rupees, which is 16 percent higher than the previous closing on October 27, when the price was 199.75 rupees. On Wednesday, Piramal Pharma shares soared, and on Thursday, they maintained high momentum, although the growth rate was slightly slower compared to the previous close, trading with a rise of about one and a half percent at 239.54 rupees.

The significant growth of Piramal Pharma shares over two days led to an increase in the company's market capitalization by approximately 18 percent. The level of 239.54 rupees on Thursday was the highest in 52 weeks. As of the time of writing, Piramal Pharma's market capitalization reached 31,060 crore rupees. Over the last six months, this share of Mukesh Ambani's in-laws has grown by 47 percent.

Mukesh Ambani's daughter and Nita Ambani's daughter, Isha Ambani, married into the Piramal family on December 12, 2018, to Anand Piramal. Her father-in-law is Ajay Piramal, who heads the Piramal Group, which is among the country's major corporate dynasties. Ajay Piramal is considered one of the prominent industrialists. His company, Piramal Enterprises, operates in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and financial services. The Piramal Group's branches are present in 30 countries worldwide. Piramal began his business career in the textile industry in 1977 at the age of just 22 and gained particular fame in the pharmaceutical sector.

Jio Platforms' stock surge at IPO allows Reliance Group to overtake Tata Group as India's largest conglomerate

The initial public offering of Jio Platforms led to a significant increase in the value of the company and its parent structure, Reliance Industries Ltd. Jio shares rose by 23% on the first day of trading on Wednesday, providing the company with a valuation exceeding 12.5 trillion rupees ($131.4 billion).

This growth raised the total market capitalization of Reliance Group above 30 trillion rupees, allowing it to surpass Tata Group, whose valuation stood at 25 trillion rupees, according to Bloomberg News. Previously, Tata Group had held the position of market capitalization leader for most of the last decade.

After its listing, which became the largest Initial Public Offering (IPO) in India, Jio also overtook its closest competitor in the telecommunications sector, Bharti Airtel Ltd, becoming the sixth-largest telecom company globally. Currently, Jio is the second-largest company in India by market capitalization, trailing only its parent company, Reliance Industries.

For Ambani, the debut of the offering was a significant moment, as he, along with four generations of his family, from mother to grandchildren, rang the opening bell. The $3.1 billion IPO was fully subscribed in less than 100 minutes and received applications for 22 times the offered shares. This strong market start signaled the potential to overcome the poor momentum of mega-IPOs in India.

Shankar Sharma, founder of GQuant Investech, noted: 'Sometimes a large offering can change the mood of the investing nation, and we all hope that Jio will do this for the Indian market.'

Despite the success, Reliance Industries shares have declined by 25.4% this year, while the benchmark index NSE Nifty 50 has fallen by almost 13.3%. However, the newly listed telecommunications giant must wait several months before it can be included in major Indian stock indices such as the Nifty 50. Stock exchanges must first introduce derivative instruments for the shares for them to become candidates for inclusion in these indices.

SENSEX reaches 74,315.61 with a gain of 1500 points; main reasons for market rally

The Indian stock market witnessed a significant surge on Thursday. The Sensex, comprising 30 stocks, reached the level of 74,315.61, registering a gain of 1533 points or 2.11%. Similarly, Nifty50 was trading at 22,997.35, up by 374.65 points or 1.66%, which is quite close to the 23000 level.

Despite the overall strong rally in the market, heavy selling was observed in the midcap and smallcap segments. Mid and smallcap indices fell by more than 1 percent, resulting in a downturn in the portfolios of most investors.

This prevented a sharp increase in the BSE market capitalization. Compared to a market capitalization of ₹470.40 lakh crore, the BSE market capitalization rose to ₹471.06 lakh crore on Thursday, leading to an increase of ₹66 thousand crore in investor wealth.

The primary reason for this strong rally in the market was the excellent performance of large-cap company shares. Reliance Industries was trading at ₹1223 per share with a gain of 4.03%. Additionally, Tech Mahindra's shares saw a rise of 4.61%, while ICICI Bank's stock also increased by over 4%.

Furthermore, shares of Bharti Airtel, Eternal, HCL Tech, HDFC Bank, TCS, and Kotak Mahindra Bank saw gains of up to 3%, playing a significant role in pulling the market upwards.

After a gap of several days, there was a tremendous jump in the Oil & Gas, Auto, IT, and Banking sectors. These sectors closed on Thursday with a growth of 1 to 1.8%. Globally, crude oil prices saw a slight decline; after crossing $105, they fell by 1.69% to approximately $104 per barrel. Along with this, the rupee strengthened, and US bond yields registered a slight decrease.

Good buying occurred in some valuable stocks in the Indian stock market, which made this strong rally possible.

Out of a total of 4,591 stocks listed on BSE, 1,657 stocks registered a gain, while 2741 stocks closed with a decline, and 193 stocks remained unchanged. Among these, 126 stocks were trading at their 52-week highs, while 114 stocks were at their 52-week lows. Additionally, 39 stocks hit the lower circuit, although no stock managed to trade at the upper circuit.
