Volkswagen launches ID. Unyx 09 in China: electric sedan with 503 hp and fast charging

Volkswagen has introduced the ID. Unyx 09 model in China, an electric sedan that is 5.08 meters long and can regain 250 kilometers of range in just five minutes of charging.

This vehicle was presented last Saturday (the 24th) by Volkswagen Anhui, one of the automaker's operational units in Chinese territory. The ID. Unyx 09 represents the second car developed in collaboration with the Chinese company Xpeng, succeeding the ID. Unyx 08 SUV.

The car's design follows a coupe format with a fastback finish, featuring a wheelbase of 3.03 meters, which ensures ample interior space for rear passengers.

The battery used is Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), supplied by CATL, with a capacity of 91.96 kWh. It supports a 5C charging rate, theoretically allowing a full charge in 12 minutes. According to VW itself, the time required to charge from 10% to 80% is less than 12 minutes.

There are different configurations available: one with a rear engine, generating 313 hp and 47.4 kgfm, and another with all-wheel drive, which adds a front motor of 190 hp, totaling 503 hp.

In terms of range, the rear-wheel-drive version achieves up to 755 km in the Chinese CLTC cycle, which is considered optimistic; under the European WLTP standard, this distance would be approximately 612 km. The all-wheel-drive version reaches 705 km.

The steering and parking assistance systems are provided by Xpeng and utilize a Turing chip with a capacity of 750 TOPS. Furthermore, the vehicle features a digital dashboard, a multimedia center equipped with an artificial intelligence assistant, and augmented reality information projection on the windshield, simulating an 85-inch screen. The car's suspension is pneumatic and dual-chamber.

The launch price of the ID. Unyx 09 starts at 179,900 yuan, equivalent to about R$ 144 thousand, and can reach 249,900 yuan, or R$ 200 thousand, in the Max configuration. It is worth noting that the initial price is 20,000 yuan lower than the price announced during the pre-sale in September. However, Volkswagen has not disclosed plans to market this sedan outside of China.
