Meesho reduced losses by 68% and revenue grew by 34% in the second quarter of fiscal year 2027

E-commerce company Meesho reported a 68% decrease in net losses, while revenue increased by 34% year-over-year for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027.

In the three months ending September 2026, Meesho recorded a net loss of ₹132.44 billion. This is significantly less than the ₹411.36 billion registered during the same period a year earlier.

Revenue for the second quarter reached ₹4,131.58 billion compared to ₹3,073.67 billion a year prior.

Meesho CEO Vidit Atrey stated that the second-quarter results reflect the strength of Meesho's operating model. He noted that Net Merchandise Value (NMV) grew by 23% year-over-year, reaching ₹12,911 billion, and the total number of transactional users reached 284 million. According to management, more consumers are making purchases on Meesho, and they are doing so more frequently, even though the number of buyers grew quarterly by 16% for the first time.

According to the company, the total number of transactional users increased by 21% year-over-year to 284 million, and the annual purchase frequency rose by 7% year-over-year to 10.4 transactions per user. Meesho also reported a 23% year-over-year growth in NMV.

It was noted that festival-related NMV grew by 33% year-over-year over the 90 days preceding Dussehra. The number of annual transacting sellers increased by 60% year-over-year to 1.13 million. Furthermore, the e-commerce company announced that over 400 thousand sellers are now part of its content commerce ecosystem, enabling entrepreneurs to find consumers through content creator-driven product discovery.

For Meesho, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a significant competitive advantage in the transition to agent-driven software development. Engineering productivity grew by 171% between March and September 2026, and the number of experiments increased by 73%. It was observed that about 65% of engineering teams now work with one engineer who manages AI agents.

Atrey emphasized that the company's focus remains on reinvesting these efficiency gains into improving the experience for both consumers and sellers, accelerating innovation, and building a larger and more efficient market capable of generating sustainable free cash flow in the long term.

As of September 30, 2026, Meesho held cash reserves of ₹7,048 billion, providing flexibility to pursue long-term growth opportunities while maintaining financial discipline.

Swiggy's net loss decreased by almost 16% to 922 crore rupees in the second quarter, while revenue grew by 36%

Food and grocery delivery platform Swiggy reduced its net loss by 15.6% year-over-year (YoY) in the second quarter of fiscal year 27. Meanwhile, the company's revenue increased by 36% over the same period.

In Q2 FY27, the company reported a loss of 922 crore rupees, which is lower than the 1,092 crore rupees recorded in the corresponding period last year. Quarterly revenue stood at 7,571 crore rupees compared to 5,561 crore rupees a year earlier.

Regarding the second-quarter results, Swiggy's CEO and Group Head, Sriharsha Majety, stated in a statement that the food delivery business achieved its highest profit and margin, while the company continues to develop new categories through Toing, its own service for affordable meals.

He also noted that express delivery saw accelerated growth, and the company received necessary approvals to be recognized as an Indian-owned and controlled company—a significant milestone for the business, the transition to which has already begun.

The Gross Order Value (GOV) in the food delivery business grew by 17.7% year-over-year, reaching 10,054 crore rupees in the second quarter. Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter was 341 crore rupees, which is 101 crore rupees more than the previous year.

Instamart's express delivery business showed a 31.4% year-over-year growth in net order volume, reaching 6,954 crore rupees. In the quarter, Instamart added 69 dark stores, corresponding to accumulated additions over the last three quarters, bringing the total store network to 1,240, covering 5.2 million square feet.

Instamart's revenue for the second quarter was 1,306 crore rupees, compared to 980 crore rupees in the corresponding period last year. However, the company recorded a loss of 764 crore rupees, higher than 739 crore rupees the previous year.

In the letter to shareholders, Majety emphasized that it was a quarter where their businesses were growing faster, and the direction became clearer. At its first Capital Markets Day on August 6, 2026, they announced a long-term goal—to achieve adjusted EBITDA of 10,000 crore rupees by FY31 with a gross order value exceeding 2.5 lakh crore rupees and a margin of around 4%.

Majety added that they view assortment as a curation game rather than a volume game, and their objective is to enable consumers to buy better, not just offer more.

In comparison, Swiggy's competitor, Eternal, which manages Zomato and Blinkit, reported a net profit of 125 crore rupees and revenue of 24,138 crore rupees for Q2 FY27.
